Job Description

Inkblot Marketing's primary mission is to serve as the publicity unit for the Center for Student Engagement (CSE). The department works to promote the program, services, issues, opportunities, and images of the student body and its surrounding community. Inkblot is a service for ASUN as well as all ASUN Clubs and Organizations that get on-campus event (Tier 1) funding from ASUN. The service provides graphic design and layout, flyers, brochures, programs, t-shirts, Social Media, branding guidance, and promotional items (i.e., Professional photo, video, etc).

The Inkblot Photo-Video Specialist is responsible for capturing, editing, and producing engaging photo and video content that promotes the Center for Student Engagement (CSE), other affiliated programs, and student life. This role plays a key part in enhancing student engagement through event coverage, creative storytelling, and social media-friendly content tailored for YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and other Social Media outlets.

As part of the Marketing group for the CSE, you'll document campus events, highlight student experiences, and support key campaigns with engaging visual assets. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated creative with a strong eye for storytelling, solid photo/video skills, and a passion for social media.This is a great opportunity to grow your portfolio, sharpen your multimedia skills, and gain hands-on experience in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Photography:

  • Attend events within ASUN, CSE, or partnered events requested through Bookings upon request/approval of the Photo-Video Team Manager or Supervisor

  • Stay up to date with Inkblot's project management software to confirm photography needs and availability to attend events and work on projects.

  • Take approved ASUN, CSE, or partner pictures or other photos whenever requested (and/or propose potential photo session that would be beneficial to said groups)

  • Manage all camera equipment.

  • Make note of whenever camera equipment (Flash, SD Card, etc) is taken and inform Photo-Video Team Manager and/or Supervisor.

  • Take at least 60 photos at each event, with at least 30 unique pictures able to be used after editing/processing (ex. See ASUN Flickr page for album expectations). Requirement may be shifted per event to ensure proficient coverage.

  • Help manage CSE photo-sharing services.

  • Upload requested photos to photo-sharing services and the server in a timely manner.

  • Keep photos organized on the server so no stock photos are being lost.

  • Maintain stock photos and plan photoshoots whenever possible around campus highlighting student life.

  • Recognize opportunities to change out photos on display on CSE sites and digital media.

  • Assist with office maintenance both physically and digitally.

  • Hold regular office hours and set times that you are consistently available to be booked for shoots with ASUN, CSE, or other partners.

  • Work with Social Media Manager to cross-promote across social media platforms.

  • Regularly take updated campus stock images.

Videography:

  • Be able to attend events that are seeking Inkblot Video services through our Bookings link.

  • Edit event videos in YouTube and TikTok/Reel format.

  • Have deliverables ready in 1-4 weeks after the event.

  • Utilize archival footage to promote upcoming events.

  • Propose and create CSE-related promotional Videos in which to update necessary information and engage as well as inform the student body.

  • Minimum: one per month.

  • Before production, storyboard/conceptualize the video and present it to the Supervisor & Photo-Video Team Manager.

  • Keep a running list of potential video ideas to explore (bring these up at weekly meetings).

  • Meet with clients to discuss potential videos.

  • Capture stock video of student life and campus.

  • Keep all internal links and files organized and up to date.

  • Backup edited and Raw files into office servers on a monthly basis.

  • Meet with clients to discuss potential videos (keep the Photo-Video Team Manager informed).

  • Upload and maintain video content on YouTube.

  • Set up goals for the YouTube page.

  • Keep track, check out, and manage Inkblot photo/video equipment.

  • Work with Graphic Designers to use logos from their design whenever possible for videos for marketing consistency.

  • Work with other Photo-Video Specialists and Social Media Manager to cross-promote on CSE Social Media Platforms.

Inkblot Photo-Video Specialists must...

  • Meet given deadlines as they are assigned per event/project.

  • Maintain regular, dependable office hours.

  • Attend regular Inkblot Staff/Team Meetings.

  • Attend CSE and University Training Sessions as required per the position.

  • Maintain close contact with Photo-Video Team Manager and Supervisor.

  • Document any equipment that is checked out/taken from the office for Inkblot projects.

  • Use professional editing software for both photo and video projects.

  • Ensure that all content being taken is done in a professional manner.

  • Prioritize capturing students in Nevada gear.

  • Communicate any potential delays/needed extensions as quickly as possible.

  • Have regular one-on-one meetings with the Photo-Video Team Manager and Supervisor.

  • Submit working hours according to Inkblot guidelines for payroll.

  • Update clients and other members of the Photo-Video Team (including the Supervisor) on photo/video project progress.

  • Candidates must follow Inkblot, CSE, and University conduct and quality standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Candidates must be an undergraduate student at the University of Nevada, Reno with a minimum 2.0 GPA

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of photography and videography.

  • Understand or have a willingness to learn Flickr.

  • Have good communication skills.

  • Demonstrate an ability to take direction and constructive criticism.

  • Demonstrate impartial decision-making skills.

  • Have a willingness to learn and grow in both photography and videography skills.

  • Must demonstrate respect for office space and its associates.

  • Be able to approach strangers and ask to take their photo.

  • Must be self-motivated and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Have an understanding of how to use professional editing software (Lightroom, Photoshop, Premiere, etc).

  • Have an interest in Public Relations, Marketing, Social Media, or similar fields.

Schedule

  • Minimum 10 Hours/Week

  • 5 hours of weekly requirement must be set office hours. The remainder may be field work, event work, or further office work.

Compensation Grade
