Job description

A respected Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) is seeking a Chief Medical Officer (CMO) with an Internal Medicine background to lead its growing organization in Santa Fe, NM (1hr from Albuquerque)

  • Established multispecialty FQHC serving Albuquerque and Santa Fe since 1996
  • 3 clinic locations, with another acquisition currently underway
  • Approximately 155 employees and 30+ providers
  • Collaborative, patient-focused "We Care" culture
  • Projected 45,236 patient visits for FY2027
  • Current patient panel of approximately 10,000, with continued growth expected through acquisition


Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $325,000
  • Up to 15% annual performance bonus
  • $3,000 quarterly leadership stipend for each Pharmacist and Physician Assistant supervised
  • 5 weeks (200 hours) of PTO
  • $3,000 CME allowance plus 5 paid CME days
  • Additional $1,000 for licensure and professional memberships

Position Highlights

  • Monday–Friday schedule
  • Location: Santa Fe, NM
  • 50% clinical practice / 50% executive leadership
  • Reports directly to the CEO
  • Average of 2.6 patients per clinical hour
  • Athena EMR used across all clinic locations
  • Position available as the current CMO transitions to part-time after six years
  • This role combines patient care with executive leadership, overseeing clinical operations across multiple sites while supporting continued expansion, acquisitions, quality initiatives, provider productivity, and organizational strategy.
  • The CMO will work closely with executive leadership, supervise multidisciplinary clinical teams,
  • Call Ratio is 1:4, with nurse triage handling initial calls.


Qualifications

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine
  • Primary care physician with leadership experience or a strong interest in serving as Chief Medical Officer
  • Eligible for a New Mexico Medical License
  • Demonstrated leadership, operational management, strategic planning, and relationship-building skills, with experience working across multidisciplinary clinical teams.
