Position Introduction:
The LLC is seeking a skilled and self-driven student to serve as its Media Producer & Videographer. The department has invested in professional-grade equipment - DSLR cameras, a video recorder, LED lighting, lavalier microphones, shotgun microphones, tripods, and supporting accessories - and needs someone who knows how to use them well.
This role is responsible for planning, shooting, and editing high-quality video content for the MLLL department: faculty and student interviews, event documentation, promotional videos, and short-form social content. The right candidate is technically capable, creatively curious, and comfortable both behind the camera and in the edit suite. Day-to-day LLC support duties are a shared team responsibility alongside the primary production work.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Video Production & Shooting
    • Plan and execute video shoots for faculty interviews, student spotlights, promotional content, and departmental announcements
    • Operate DSLR cameras, video recorders, and wireless webcam equipment to capture broadcast-quality footage
    • Set up and operate LED lighting rigs, lavalier (lav) microphones, and shotgun microphones for indoor and outdoor shoots
    • Direct interview subjects and coordinate on-set logistics to ensure a smooth, professional shoot experience
    • Shoot short-form content (Reels, YouTube Shorts) for social media in coordination with the Social Media Strategist
    • Propose and initiate original video content ideas that serve the department's promotional and storytelling goals
  • Editing & Post-Production
    • Edit raw footage into polished, publish-ready videos - including cuts, color grading, audio mixing, lower thirds, and captions
    • Adapt edits for multiple formats: long-form (YouTube/website), short-form (Reels/Shorts), and presentation clips
    • Manage video upload workflows - exporting, captioning, and publishing to YouTube, Instagram, and the department website
    • Maintain organized project files and an archive of raw footage, project files, and finished edits for institutional use
  • Event Documentation & Coverage
    • Cover departmental events including Language and Culture Day, placement testing season kickoffs, language club events, faculty talks, and workshops
    • Capture both planned and candid moments that reflect the energy and culture of the MLLL community
    • Photograph events when a second camera operator is not available, contributing to the department's photo archive
  • Equipment Management
    • Responsible for the proper handling, storage, and care of all LLC and MLLL production equipment
    • Maintain an equipment sign-out log and flag any maintenance or repair needs to the LLC Manager promptly
    • Stay current on equipment capabilities and propose workflow improvements when applicable
  • LLC Daily Support - Shared Team Responsibility
    • Assist students with language placement tests and assessment procedures
    • Respond to placement-related emails and direct student inquiries to appropriate resources
    • Support faculty and staff with day-to-day administrative and technical requests
    • Maintain a clean, welcoming, and professional atmosphere in the LLC space
    • Work collaboratively with LLC staff and student team members on larger departmental projects

Required Skills:
  • Ability to speak, read, and write clear, concise English
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously
  • Strong initiative - brings ideas forward and follows through without being prompted
  • Able to communicate effectively and build rapport with students, faculty, and staff
  • Customer service orientation
  • Able to work collaboratively within a small, interdepartmental team
  • Ability to handle professional equipment with care and responsibility

Advertised Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to communicate, including expressing oneself or exchanging information with others
  • Ability to sit or stand for short or extended periods of time
  • Ability to engage in repetitive motions including movements of the hands, wrists, or fingers
  • Ability to carry and set up camera equipment, tripods, lighting rigs, and accessories
  • Ability to crouch, crawl, bend, or stoop as needed during filming or equipment setup
  • Ability to attend on-campus events for live coverage, including some events outside regular business hours

Required Education:
