What does a part time construction bookkeeper do?

A Part Time Construction Bookkeeper manages the financial records and transactions for a construction company or contractor on a part-time basis. Their duties typically include processing invoices, tracking expenses, managing payroll, reconciling accounts, and preparing financial reports specific to construction projects. They also ensure compliance with tax regulations and may assist with budgeting and cost control. By working part time, they provide flexible support to businesses that may not need a full-time bookkeeper.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a part time construction bookkeeper?

To thrive as a Part Time Construction Bookkeeper, you need strong accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and experience with bookkeeping—often supported by a degree in accounting or related field. Familiarity with industry-specific accounting software like QuickBooks, Sage 300 Construction, or Procore, as well as knowledge of AIA billing and job costing, is typically required. Excellent organizational skills, reliability, and effective communication set top performers apart in this role. These skills ensure accurate financial records, regulatory compliance, and smooth financial operations for construction projects.

What are common challenges faced by part time construction bookkeepers, and how can they be managed effectively?
