What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Computer Scientist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Computer Scientist, you need a strong background in computer science fundamentals, programming languages, and problem-solving skills, typically supported by a relevant degree or coursework. Familiarity with software development tools, version control systems like Git, and sometimes certifications in specific technologies or languages are commonly expected. Excellent time management, adaptability, and clear communication are vital soft skills for balancing project responsibilities and collaborating effectively with teams on a part-time schedule. These skills ensure productivity, high-quality results, and seamless integration within dynamic technical environments.

How do part-time computer scientists typically balance project responsibilities with limited working hours?

Part-time computer scientists often manage their workload by focusing on clearly defined tasks or modules within larger projects, allowing them to make meaningful contributions without being overwhelmed. They usually coordinate closely with full-time team members through regular check-ins and clear documentation to ensure continuity and alignment. Effective time management, strong communication skills, and setting realistic expectations with supervisors are essential to maintaining productivity and meeting deadlines in a part-time capacity.

What are part time computer scientists?

Part time computer scientists are professionals who work in the field of computer science but on a reduced or flexible schedule, typically fewer hours than a standard full-time position. They may be involved in software development, research, data analysis, or IT support, depending on the employer's needs. Part time roles can be ideal for students, parents, or those balancing other commitments, as they offer the opportunity to gain valuable experience while maintaining a flexible work-life balance.

Part-Time IT Systems Administrator

Havenly

Denver, CO โ€ข On-site

$28 - $32/hr

Part-time

Posted 16 days ago

Job description

Havenly is on a mission to make beautiful, expertly designed homes accessible to everyone - and behind that mission is a team that moves fast, thinks creatively, and uses technology to do things better. We're a digitally native, Denver-based house of brands (Havenly, Interior Define, Burrow, The Citizenry, The Inside, St. Frank, and The Expert) that's been growing rapidly through innovation and a relentless focus on the customer experience.
Now we need that same energy applied to our internal operations.
We're looking for a part-time IT Systems Administrator to own how our team members get set up for success from day one - and transitioned cleanly when they move on. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role that's perfect for someone who doesn't just want to follow a checklist, but wants to build one. If you're excited by automation, energized by AI tools, and want to bring real systematization to a company that values it, you'll fit right in here.
This is a contract role with real upside: if you do great work and want to grow with us, a path to full-time is on the table.
This is a part-time, in-office role based at our Denver headquarters. Candidates must be located within a commutable distance to our Denver office.
Schedule & Compensation
This is a part-time contract role, approximately 20 hours per week. We're flexible on scheduling - either 4 hours/day across 5 days, or 5 hours/day across 4 days. We'll figure out what works best together.
What You'll Own
System Onboarding & Offboarding (Primary Focus)
  • Provision and configure accounts, devices, and access for new hires across our core systems (email, SaaS tools, internal platforms, etc.)
  • Execute clean, thorough offboarding for departing employees - revoking access, transferring data, and documenting everything
  • Build and maintain checklists, runbooks, and SOPs so this process gets better over time, not just repeated

IT Help Desk (Secondary)
  • Respond to basic IT support tickets - password resets, software issues, connectivity troubleshooting, hardware questions
  • Triage and escalate anything beyond your scope appropriately

Systematization & Automation
  • Identify repetitive manual tasks and propose (or build) automations using AI tools, scripts, or workflow platforms
  • Help us move from "tribal knowledge" to documented, repeatable processes

What We're Looking For
  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Computer Science, Information Systems, IT, or a related field
  • Comfortable working independently with minimal hand-holding - you figure things out
  • Genuinely AI-native: you use AI tools in your daily workflow and think about how to apply them to new problems
  • Strong attention to detail, especially around access management and security hygiene
  • Clear communicator - you document your work and flag issues proactively
  • Experience with common SaaS tools (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, etc.) is a plus
  • Scripting or automation experience (Python, bash, Zapier, Make, or similar) is a plus - but not required if you're eager to learn

Why This Role
  • Real ownership from week one - you're not shadowing anyone, you're running the process
  • Direct exposure to how a growing, multi-brand company operates across all its systems
  • Flexibility to experiment with AI and automation tools in a role where it actually matters
  • Potential to convert to a full-time position based on performance and mutual interest
  • A team that will invest in you and value what you bring

At Havenly Brands, we're building this generation's premier destination for all things home. Alongside our award winning Havenly design services, we proudly own and operate some of the best home furnishings brands in the business including Havenly, Interior Define, The Citizenry, Burrow, Inside, and St.Frank. Our family of brands is growing and we're looking for amazing people to join us on this journey!
The pay range for this role is:
28 - 32 USD per hour (Denver, CO)
