Opportunity Overview

We have an immediate opening for a Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist to join our team at Shady Grove Fertility in Norfolk, Virginia.

  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, between 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM with occasional weekends and holidays from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Occasionally floats to our Virginia Beach office.

In this role, the Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist will:

  • Perform high volume of phlebotomy
  • Maintain supplies for the blood drawing stations
  • Assist with the clinical care of fertility patients
  • Ensure lab specimens are sent to proper labs
  • Provide patient/couple counseling, procedure teaching, communicates physician orders and instructions
  • Provide pre and post op education
  • Perform semen washes and sets up for IUIs
  • Take vital signs and provide general clinical assistance
  • Utilize the computer in entering labs and printing labels
  • Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional and psychological support to patients and patients’ families
  • Work independently to assure the program goals are achieved
  • Support and promote excellence in customer service

Qualifications and Skills Include:

  • Strong phlebotomy skills required
  • High School diploma
  • Completion of a formal MA program; preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment
  • Strong attention to detail, demonstrated ability to follow-through, and high degree of comfort with computer applications, accuracy and speed with data entry is required
  • Minimum of one year of prior experience in healthcare and familiarity with medical terminology
