Position Description
Primary Purpose and Essential Functions
Faculty in the Master of Emergency Management Science (MEMS) Program in the School of Health Sciences (SHS) will collaborate in fulfilling the University's mission to provide a superior, student-centered learning experience integrating liberal arts and professional education and preparing individuals for lasting achievement and responsible leadership in their careers and communities. The adjunct Visiting Clinical Professor will deliver content as needed within the program, with consideration of areas of expertise throughout the MEMS program.
Reports to the Program Director for the Master of Emergency Management Science (MEMS) program, School of Health Sciences (SHS). This is an adjunct, non-tenure track Visiting Clinical Professor appointment.
  • Teach online courses in areas of expertise using innovative teaching modalities for courses with major themes in Emergency Management Sciences.
  • Create or co-create online course content and materials in areas of expertise using innovative teaching modalities, including but not limited to:
    • Course syllabus.
    • Reading assignments.
    • Lectures.
    • Outlines and scripts for videos, voice-over presentations, podcasts, etc.
    • Quizzes and exams.
    • Discussion boards.
    • Assignments.
    • Assessments.
    • Student guidance.
    • Instructions.
    • Overviews.
    • Other teaching materials.
  • Create a student-centered learning environment.
  • Prepare lecture capture PowerPoints, videos, course content, and other media rich technologies for effective teaching.
  • Engage regularly with students in online forums, discussion boards, and virtual meetings.
  • Grade learning activities and provide timely constructive feedback.
  • Mentor student-directed scholarly work, including capstone projects.
  • Provide academic advising.
  • Participate in applicant review and admissions interview processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • An earned post-graduate doctorate or terminal professional degree in the field of specialization.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience developing and delivering online graduate level courses.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in the field of study; Intermediate to advanced computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated potential to work as a team with administrators, fellow faculty, staff, and students.
  • Demonstrated experience translating educational content into online adult learning.
  • Earned certificate in online learning and/or formal training on the Quality Matters (QM), Quality Learning and Teaching (QLT), or other rubrics for online teaching.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Work performed primarily during standard business hours, Pacific time zone. Some events on weekends/evenings are to be expected and will be scheduled with advance notice. Work is primarily performed on-line in a remote location. Availability for students, faculty and staff during program hours is expected, regardless of time-zone where the work is performed.
Hiring Range
$3,564.00 per term. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
