Job Description
AECOM is seeking highly motivated and dependable Control Room Operators (Part-Time) to staff a traffic operations control room in Omaha, Nebraska. Applicants will need to be professional, reliable, self-motivated, and able to follow strict standard operating procedures. The qualified applicants will need to clearly demonstrate their knowledge of Nebraska's Interstate and Arterial Road Network and basic proficiency with computer and communication systems. Applicants will also need to confirm their willingness and ability to work in a 24/7/365 operating environment, which may include weekend, night, and holiday shifts.
These positions are responsible for monitoring, detecting and reporting traffic incidents on Nebraska's roadways, and coordinating with response agencies to manage the clearance of traffic incidents. The primary responsibility of this position is to use intelligent transportation system devices to detect and verify incidents, coordinate a response and communicate the impacts to stakeholders. Once the Control Room Operator has confirmed a traffic incident and coordinated with the appropriate jurisdiction for response, the operator then distributes traveler information through a variety of communication platforms such as digital message signs, websites, social media, and media outlets.
Control Room Operators execute their responsibilities from a Traffic Management Center (TMC), located in Omaha, Nebraska. The environment is a technological hub for traffic operations, which uses a variety of different technologies for the purpose of enhancing safety and mobility.
Other Responsibilities Include:
  • Managing and logging traffic incidents in an advanced transportation management system software.
  • Coordinating and dispatching incident response crews to incidents in a safe, timely and efficient manner.
  • Detecting, confirming, and tracking equipment failures affecting control room operations (e.g., central system, computers, CCTV cameras, digital message signs, etc.).
  • Coordinating with local, regional, and statewide stakeholders on all control room activities by providing essential and timely incident information and status.
  • Informing first responders of traffic related incidents involving injury and assisting with coordination of lane closures and diversion routes.
  • Coordinating incidents (to include traffic signal system malfunctions) with local municipalities for resolution and information dissemination.

Work Conditions:
  • May be subject to short or no-notice work assignments during emergency events.
  • Rotating shift schedule, available morning, afternoons, and evenings.
  • Controlled, indoor environment with dimmed lighting.
  • Significant periods of sitting, CCTV camera viewing and data entry.
  • Heavy volume of telephone, radio and computer usage.
  • Closely supervised shift schedule; monitored performance with routine evaluation.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
  • High School + 1 or more years prior experience as a Traffic Monitoring Operator or other related experience.
  • Driver's license is in good standing.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree.
  • Prior experience working in a fast paced, technology infused environment.
