Job description

Job Title: Adjunct Instructor for Chemistry

Reports To: Chair, Natural Science

Status: Contract, Part-Time


The Division of Natural Sciences at Mount Saint Mary College (Newburgh, NY) seeks qualified individuals to teach one or more sections of Nursing Chemistry Fundamentals, beginning Fall 2026, but also with the possibility of an ongoing basis. This course introduces nursing students to the basic concepts of general, organic, and biochemistry specifically as they apply to the life sciences. The 3-hour laboratory scheduled for the course will include one hour of recitation, which incorporates problem solving and the quantitative aspects of chemical behavior, along with 2 hours of hands-on laboratory work. Previously-developed materials are available for use. This course is offered during the traditional 15-week semester schedule, from late-August through mid-December.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide support and guidance to students
  • Instruct an assigned course, providing syllabi and other instructional materials
  • Use of College learning management systems to deliver instruction
  • Prepare and deliver course materials (lectures, labs, assignments, assessments) in alignment with departmental learning goals.
  • Maintain course records, grade assignments, and submit final grades in a timely manner.
  • Provide students with regular feedback on performance and be available during office hours or by appointment.
  • Adhere to departmental and college policies and deadlines.
  • Coordinate with course coordinators and laboratory staff as needed

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Must have computer skills to include knowledgeable use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Show proficiency in oral and written communications with the ability to generate high-quality classroom materials.
  • Demonstrate the ability to clearly and engagingly present information, lead class activities, and facilitate student learning.
  • Have leadership abilities to guide students in hands-on, design, or technology management in the laboratory setting.
  • Demonstrate commitment to student success and academic excellence.

Requirements

  • A graduate degree in Chemistry or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience within the field of Chemistry.

Compensation

$2490-3450, depending on degree and lecture/lab taught
