Job description

Location: James River Club
Position Status: Full time
Exempt Status: Nonexempt
Compensation Type: Hourly
Salary Range: $24.73 - $29.10 per hour
Hours per Week: 40
Position Summary:
The Lead Program Coordinator (LPC) will oversee delivery of the range of youth programs at the designated Club. The LPC will supervise and train program staff as well as develop and implement a program schedule that focuses on Academic Success, Health & Well-being, Character & Leadership, and Life & Workforce Readiness. The Lead Program Coordinator will develop strong relationships with community members, community partners and other stakeholders to ensure we are meeting the needs of the youth and their families. The Lead Program Coordinator will step in to lead the Club in the absence of the Unit Director. The Lead Program Coordinator will support and implement all emergency procedure protocols. This position reports to the Unit Director.
Position Description:
  • Plan and oversee Club programs and activities that support Youth Development Outcomes.
  • Flexibly design programs based on kids expressed interests and the community's needs while being inclusive of gender, age, and diversity of interests.
  • Include BGCA programs as a part of regular program delivery for members.
  • Ensure the evaluation of Club programs on a continual basis.
  • Establish and maintain Club program goals and settings that ensure the health and safety of members.
  • Ensure that staff understand and effectively communicate standards of programs and that they ensure program areas are safe and developmentally appropriate.
  • Participate in BGCCVA Youth Program Quality Team.
  • Control Club program and activity expenditures within approved budget.
  • Design a meaningful recognition schedule on the program and Club level.
  • Manage Club Operations in the absence of the Unit Director.
  • Supervise part-time employees in the development of programming in the program areas of Academic Success, Health & Well-being, Character & Leadership, and Life & Workforce Readiness.
  • Conduct program-related onboarding experiences for new staff and volunteers and re-training of veteran staff.
  • Oversee proper record keeping and reporting for program quality and grant reporting.
  • Oversee special programs and/or events.
  • Drive Club vehicles as needed.
  • Consult with parents/guardians concerning Member and Club issues.
  • Maintain contact as needed with external community groups, schools, members' parents/guardians, and others.
  • Create and support opportunities, systems, and expectations that promote a human-centered organizational culture.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • At least five years' work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people
  • Prior management experience preferred
  • Strong oral and written communication
  • Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management abilities
  • Physical requirements include moderate activity included in training and program participation for staff and members

Education and Certifications:
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Four-year degree in a related field, or equivalent experience, preferred
  • CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to become certified upon hire
  • Valid Driver's license for 3 years required

Physical Requirements and Work Conditions:
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Exposure to indoor and outdoor work environments
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to be effective in an environment with varying levels of noise throughout the day
  • Ability to maintain both visual and auditory supervision of youth members
  • Ability and willingness to drive Club vehicles
