Job description

Description
The Home-School Connections Team, under the leadership of Dr. Adina Schick, follows a partnership-based model to address the socio-cultural context of children's early development and learning at home and school, with a close focus on children from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds. Our work spans two main areas: understanding the discourse and linguistic features of child-caregiver interactions, as well as exploring the ways in which schools and childcare centers incorporate culturally grounded family practices to support children's learning and development. We take a strength-based approach to understanding the ways minoritized families support their children's development and strongly believe that building solid home-school connections requires adopting a bidirectional approach, including bringing salient home and community practices into the classroom setting.
Currently, we are seeking a part-time (25-27 hours/week) Research Associate for the fall semester to assist with the scoring of classroom videos using the Assessing Classroom Sociocultural Early Childhood Education and Development through Storytelling (SEEDS) intervention, a culturally responsive, classroom-based oral storytelling program designed to support the early education and development of culturally and linguistically diverse children enrolled in New York City preschools.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Score preschool classroom video recordings using the Assessing Classroom Sociocultural Equity Scale (ACSES).
  • Maintain high levels of coding reliability and participate in reliability checks and calibration meetings as needed.
  • Record and organize coding data in accordance with study protocols.
  • Ensure the confidentiality and secure handling of video data and research materials.
  • Complete assigned coding tasks independently while meeting project deadlines.
  • Assist with other research-related tasks as needed.

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate for this position is $30/hour. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
Per NYU's remote-work policy, this position is expected to be fully remote.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Developmental Psychology, Education, Applied Psychology, or a related field.
  • Previous experience with the SEEDS intervention.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
  • Strong oral communication skills.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Certification in the Assessing Classroom Sociocultural Equity Scale (ACSES).
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to accurately follow standardized coding protocols.
  • Experience coding or observing early childhood classroom interactions is preferred.
  • Familiarity with culturally responsive and equity-focused pratices in early childhood education is preferred.

Application Instructions
This position will begin on August 24, 2026. To apply, please send a cover letter and CV/resume via Interfolio.
