Summary
The Criminal Justice Training Center in the College of Health and Human Services at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) invites applicants for various non-credit instructional positions.
Available Roles:1. Physical Conditioning Instructor
2. First Aid and CPR Instructor
3. Application of Force Special Instructor
4. Firearms Special Instructor
5. Patrol Vehicle Operation Special Instructor
6. General Instruction
IUP Instructors - PT Position (Adjunct) - Must be eligible for MPOETC instructor certification to apply. $30 per hour.
CNX Instructors - PT Position (Adjunct)
Position Qualifications
Physical Conditioning Instructor
  • Minimum Education and Training

Physical Conditioning - Provide documentation of successful completion of an Instructor Development course and training or education which evidences expertise as a physical conditioning instructor. Must be certified by MPOETC as a Physical Conditioning instructor and receive an instructor identification number.
  • Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Approved Physical Conditioning certification, five years police experience (must document), a Bachelor of Arts Degree (transcript required), and Instructor Development Course (copy of certificate required).
First Aid and CPR Instructor
  • Minimum Education and Training

Must possess a current Instructor Certification issued by the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, the Department of Health or other agency approved by the Department of Health. (40 hour curriculum). Must be certified by MPOETC as a First Aid and CPR instructor and receive an instructor identification number.
  • Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Approved First Aid and CPR certification, five years police experience (must document), a Bachelor of Arts Degree (transcript required), and Instructor Development Course (copy of certificate required).
Application of Force Special Instructor
  • Minimum Experience & Training

Provide documentation of successful completion of an Instructor Development course and training or education which evidences expertise as a defensive tactics instructor. Must be certified by MPOETC as a Defensive Tactics instructor and receive an instructor identification number.
  • Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Approved Defensive Tactics Instructor, five years police experience (must document), a Bachelor of Arts Degree (transcript required), and Instructor Development Course (copy of certificate required).
Firearms Special Instructor
  • Minimum Experience & Training

Possess a current Police Firearms Instructor rating from the National Rifle Association, the State Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Smith and Wesson Academy, the Philadelphia Police Academy, United States Secret Service, or other certification approved by the Commission. Must be certified by MPOETC as a Firearms instructor and receive an instructor identification number.
  • Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Approved Firearms certification, five years police experience (must document), a Bachelor of Arts Degree (transcript required), and Instructor Development Course (copy of certificate required).
Patrol Vehicle Operation Special Instructor
  • Minimum Experience & Training

Provide documentation of successful completion of an Instructor Development course and an instructor's course in emergency vehicle operation or police driver proficiency. Must be certified by MPOETC as a Patrol Vehicle Operator instructor and receive an instructor identification number.
  • Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Approved Patrol Vehicle Operator, five years police experience (must document), a Bachelor of Arts Degree (transcript required), and Instructor Development Course (copy of certificate required).
General Instruction
  • Minimum Experience & Training

Three years police experience (must document), a Bachelor of Arts Degree (transcript required), and either an acceptable Instructor Development Course (copy of certificate required) or a teaching certificate issued by the Department of Education (copy of certificate required) or have full-time employment with academic rank at an accredited college or university (must document).
OR
Four years police experience (must document), an Associate of Arts Degree (transcript required), and either an acceptable Instructor Development Course (copy of certificate required), or a teaching certificate issued by the Department of Education (copy of certificate required) or have full-time employment with academic rank at an accredited college or university (must document).
OR
Five years police experience (must document), and either an acceptable Instructor Development Course (copy of certificate required), or a teaching certificate issued by the Department of Education (copy of certificate required) or have full-time employment with academic rank at an accredited college or university (must document).
OR
Attorney licensed to practice in Pennsylvania (include copy of current bar card).
Must be certified by MPOETC as a general instructor and receive an instructor identification number.
  • Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Five years police experience (must document), a Bachelor of Arts Degree (transcript required), and Instructor Development Course (copy of certificate required).

Essential Functions
The work of this position occurs in a typical office environment. Although infrequent, periods of heavy exertion may occur. Incumbent must have the following abilities:
  • Ability to travel to field locations and meeting/training sites by motor vehicle when required.
  • Communicate both orally and in writing to issue, receive and carry out instructions and orders effectively and to convey information to a variety of co-workers and the general public.
  • Use a variety of common office machines such as telephones, calculators, copiers, computer terminals, keyboards, video display terminals, auxiliary printers and similar equipment.
  • Employee must be able to observe and react to hazard warnings, backup alarms, flashing lights, voice commands and hand signals.
  • Perform manual duties such as lifting and carrying various weight limits.
  • Operate office equipment which may require stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching and prolonged standing.
  • Provide assistance and guidance to internal and external customers.
  • Follow oral and written instructions.
