Job description

Dear Charles, located inside The Study at Johns Hopkins is currently seeking a part-time Dishwasher/Steward. We are looking for a skilled candidate who has the flexibility to work weekends and weekdays.
The back-of-house team provides genuine hospitality by means of the highest quality culinary experience for our guests. The ideal candidate has an engaging, vibrant personality that thrives in a team environment.
Our caring and attentive associates reinforce our principal belief that guest service is our highest priority. We have opportunities for energetic, service-oriented individuals who are experienced in providing efficient service and memorable experiences.
This position is part-time and will work 2 evening shifts and 2 morning shifts.
Responsibilities
  • Load, run and unload dishwashing machines.
  • Monitor machinery for the appropriate soap levels and water temperature to ensure sanitary wash cycles. Promptly report any technical or performance issues.
  • Wash specific items by hand (e.g., wooden serving tray, large pots, and delicate serving pieces).
  • Wash and store all tableware, glassware, and kitchenware. Handle and store objects carefully to prevent breakage and loss.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitized, and safe work area at all times. The dishwashing area should be clear of debris, floors should be kept dry to prevent slipping, and work should be organized.
  • Maintain adequate levels of clean tableware for dining room and kitchen.
  • Bag, haul, and dispose of kitchen waste to an outdoor dumpster.
  • Maintain adequate levels of dish detergents and cleaning supplies.
  • Clean food preparation and production areas as required.
  • Be available to fill in as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant as directed by the Restaurant Manager or Chef.
  • Aid and assist chefs in daily preparation of items, goods, and inventory.

Fundamentals
  • Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Work well in a team environment.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to positively communicate and interact with all hotel departments.
  • Ability to follow instructions and help with various tasks, as needed.
  • Flexibility to work any shift including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Proficiency in English required. A second language is desirable.
  • Ability to grasp, lift and or carry, or otherwise, move goods weighing a maximum of 60 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for long periods indoors with a thematically climate-controlled workstation.
