COOK/CLEANER - Part-Time


Position Title: Cook/Cleaner - Part-Time

Hours of Work: 20-30 hours/week (Schedule to be determined based on availability)

Salary: $22.80/hr


Position Summary

The Cook/Cleaner is responsible for performing building cleaning and other duties to ensure that buildings and facilities are maintained in a healthy, safe and sanitary manner when scheduled to work at a Cleaner.  When scheduled to work as a cook, they are responsible for cooking and maintaining a safe and clean environment that meets safe food handling regulations in a trauma informed cultural way by following outlined menu plans.


Qualifications

Successful completion of a high school diploma or GED. 

Minium three (3) months Janitor/Cleaner work experience.

A combination of education, training and other related experience in the area of Safe Food Handling.


Preferred

Experience working in an Indigenous organization.

Ability to speak Ojibway, Oji-Cree or Cree.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of safe food handling practices

Knowledge of Indigenous Food Preparation/Practices and Recipes

Ability to meet safety and sanitation practices

Knowledge of a variety of cleaning supplies and cleaning equipment

Ability to adhere to the site safety policies, confidentiality and dress code

Sensitive to the needs of woman and children in the are of Family Violence


Responsibilities - Cook

Serve residents in a respectful and caring way

Meet safe food handling regulations in a trauma informed cultural way

Follow the prepared menu in accordance with the Indigenous Canada Food Guide

Maintain a clean and sanitary cooking quarters (kitchen) at all times


Responsibilities – Cleaner

Complete and maintain related cleaning records

Maintain overall cleanliness of buildings

Clean offices, showers, bathrooms and common areas

Sweep, mop and vacuum all floor areas

Dust all furniture, fixtures and equipment

Wash and disinfect all washroom floors, toilets, toilet seats, hand dryers and fixtures in the washrooms and showers

Replenish all cleaning supplies in the building including but limited to: paper towel, soap, multipurpose sanitizing spray and hand sanitizer

Clean window, empty all waste baskets, garbage cans and recycling bins

Clean and remove litter/garbage from external areas such as entrance ways, sidewalks, parking lots using appropriate equipment.

Place all garbage and recycling in the outside storage area

Use appropriate safety equipment at all times

Ensure all designated outdoor smoking areas are clean and litter free

Operate a motor vehicle to pick up and move goods and supplies and travel to other locations

Adherence to the Code of Ethics and positive relationship building.

Working Conditions

The Cook/Cleaner will be required to perform work at all Beendigen Locations.


Ontario Health and Safety (OH&S) All employees are required to carry out their duties in a manner that does not adversely affect their own health and safety and that of others by reporting all potential hazards; and all incidents and injuries; as well as co-operating with any measures introduced in the workplace to improve OH&S


Employment is subject to:

  • Must provide a successful Police Records Check (Vulnerable Sector)
  • Must have a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s license, use of an automobile and appropriate insurance coverage is required
  • Must sign Oath of Confidentiality
  • Must have First Aid CPR & AED Level C Certification or agreeable to obtain
  • Must be able to work shift work a variety of days/times throughout the week.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours
  • Must have use of a working cellular device and be able to download and use work required applications.
