Essential Job Duties
The Department of Chemistry is seeking a part-time Lecturer to support undergraduate student learning through instruction in General and Analytical Chemistry courses during the Fall 2026 semester. In this role, you will provide engaging classroom and laboratory instruction, guide students through foundational and advanced chemistry concepts, and contribute to a learning environment that supports student success.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver lecture and laboratory-based instruction for undergraduate General and Analytical Chemistry courses.
  • Manage all aspects of assigned courses, including course administration, instructional planning, and coordination of course activities.
  • Foster student engagement and support learning through effective classroom and laboratory instruction.
  • Develop, administer, and evaluate student assessments, including examinations and grading.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of teaching assistants.
  • Plan and facilitate problem-solving session activities to enhance student understanding of course material.

Courses may include:
Chemistry - A Molecular Science
Course Description: A fundamental study of molecular bonding, structure, and reactivity. Principles of atomic structure, ionic and covalent bonding, reaction energetics, intermolecular forces, precipitation reactions, acid/base reactions, oxidation/reduction processes, and introductions to organic and inorganic chemistry.
CH 316 - Quantitative Analysis Laboratory Course Description: Practical utilization of spectrochemical and electrochemical techniques, alongside volumetric and chromatographic analytical methodologies, to identify and determine the quantity of various mixture constituents.
CH 415 - Analytical Chemistry II Course Description: An examination of quantitative analytical techniques utilizing electronic instrumentation. Topics include signal electronics, atomic and surface spectroscopy, infrared/Raman methods, and x-ray fluorescence. Additional coverage includes voltammetry, gas and liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, chemical transducers, and the application of statistical data processing.

Minimum Education and Experience
Requires master's degree, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience.
Other Required Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of chemistry concepts and principles necessary to teach undergraduate General and Analytical Chemistry courses.
  • Ability to communicate complex scientific concepts clearly and effectively to undergraduate students in both lecture and laboratory settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, deliver, and assess course content, including lectures, laboratory activities, examinations, and grading.
  • Experience supporting student learning through classroom engagement, problem-solving activities, and instructional guidance.
  • Ability to coordinate course activities and collaborate effectively with teaching assistants and departmental colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related discipline.
  • Prior instruction of undergraduate chemistry courses, particularly General Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or chemistry laboratory courses. This can include time as a graduate student teaching assistant or an instructor of record.
  • Familiarity with implementing and teaching laboratory safety practices, analytical instrumentation, and techniques relevant to undergraduate chemistry instruction.
