Job description

Arcadis is the world's leading company delivering sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets.

Arcadis seeks a Principal Industrial Water/Wastewater Consultant to join the Industrial Water Treatment and Optimization (IWTO) team as a “seller/doer”. This heavily client‑facing technical position will be key to our growth in the Mining sector in the US.

Role accountabilities

As a Principal Water/Wastewater Consultant you will join the IWTO team as a “seller/doer”. The role will be key to our growth within the Mining Sector in the US, engaging with clients to help grow our team’s revenue and enable continued growth. This individual will connect with clients, learn their needs, assess how Arcadis can support them, create opportunities, and lead the preparation of proposals. The selling aspect will represent 40‑50% of the role. The remaining 50‑60% will involve conceptual and detailed process design for industrial water and wastewater treatment projects in a variety of industries, particularly for the Mining sector.

With deep technical acumen and a strong knowledge of mining operations, you will serve as a subject‑matter expert in industrial wastewater treatment. You will engage in client management and development, and also act as a technical expert during project execution. This client‑facing role expects collaboration with Arcadis locations across the US and globally.

This is a hybrid work position. Client facilities and projects are located throughout the US, with some international assignments. Preferred locations include Denver, Reno, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, Missoula, Houston, Dallas, Raleigh, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, Tampa, and Philadelphia; however, other locations may also be considered.

Responsibilities

Business development: Lead activities to increase project wins and develop long‑lasting client relationships. Routine tasks include: reaching out to your client network regularly to stay connected, assessing opportunities, positioning future offerings, leading pursuits and proposals, and meeting with clients to determine needs and provide solutions.

Participate in client interviews, engage with Arcadis’ regional, national, and global client account teams, support business development expansion, prepare abstracts and technical papers, and mentor staff on mining operations and wastewater issues.

  • Lead projects and clients in the planning, design, and construction of industrial water/wastewater treatment plants and wastewater recycle plants.
  • Coordinate multi‑disciplined engineering teams, serve as subject‑matter expert for complex designs, and collaborate with other design disciplines.

Routine tasks include:

  • Design basis documents (direction/review)
  • Engineering calculations including mass and energy balances (direction/review)
  • Review of engineering drawings (P&IDs and Layout)
  • Specifications for treatment equipment, instrumentation, and controls
  • Engineering reports and feasibility studies (direction/review) and quality reviews
  • Manage technical coordination and leadership roles on larger or complex projects or projects with higher associated risk
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field of study preferred
  • 20+ years of industrial water/wastewater treatment experience
  • Past roles across engineering, project management, sustainability, sales, marketing, and mining
  • Knowledge and experience with industrial clients in North America, especially in the Mining sector
  • Strong experience in developing and leading large industrial wastewater capital projects
  • Strong experience and network within the Mining sector
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer License
  • Knowledge and experience with multinational industrial clients
  • Previous experience in a regional or national role and collaboration across regional teams
