Job description

TITLE:             Driver  
STATUS:        Part-Time, Hourly                              
YEAR-ROUND: 5-15h per week during off-season (Sept - May) - 20-30h per week during Festival season (June - August)
REPORTS TO:     Company Manager
DEPARTMENT:  Programming
WORKS WITH:   Programming Department, Festival staff, visiting artists, faculty, students, & guests
COMPENSATION: $18 - $24 per hour
SCHEDULE: Hours vary and are mutually agreed upon by Driver based on their preferences and availability
BENEFITS: Free access to select performances, classes, talks, and studios as schedules allow.
SUMMER ONLY: Three meals a day, free access to classes, performances, talks, and studio usage.
 
As a Driver at Jacob's Pillow, you’ll play a key role in providing transportation for artists, staff, and guests to and from nearby cities (including Boston and NYC), as well as airports, train stations, and bus stops. You’ll also assist with picking up and delivering supplies from local vendors. Reporting to the Public Programs Coordinator, you will collaborate with the Programming Team for scheduling and logistics. This is a year-round driving position requiring flexibility with hours. While there is more work available during the peak festival season from May to August, the volume tends to be lighter in the winter months, though steady opportunities are still provided year-round. We’re seeking candidates with strong attention to detail, reliability, and a welcoming, professional demeanor.
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Transport staff, artists, and guests to/from residences, airports, train stations, and bus stops.
  • Load and unload luggage or freight, up to 50 lbs.
  • Pick up and deliver supplies and equipment from vendors.
  • Perform assigned transportation errands and drives as scheduled by the Public Programs Coordinator.
  • Regularly check email for scheduling updates and communications.
  • Deliver mail and express packages as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and stock in Jacob’s Pillow vehicles.
  • Log all trips and submit all receipts to the Programming Team.
  • Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and experience in customer service.
  • Proficiency with navigation, including map reading and GPS systems.
  • Punctual, detail-oriented, and able to maintain discretion.
  • Comfortable driving long distances in various vehicles, including a 12-passenger van and cargo van.
  • Willingness to drive between NYC, Boston, and other big and small city locations.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous professional driving experience or similar role.
  • Experience working with artists, performers, or in an arts-related organization.
  • Multilingual abilities, especially in Spanish or French.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Ability to safely drive a variety of vehicles, including a 12-passenger van and cargo van, in varied weather and traffic conditions.
  • Regularly lift and carry luggage or supplies up to 50 lbs., with or without assistance.
  • Flexible hours, with potential early mornings, late nights, or weekend shifts.
  • Comfortable sitting for long periods while driving.
