Clinician - Nurse Practitioner Batavia, NY
Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York (PPCWNY) protects and provides health care and education that empowers individuals and families. With respect. Without judgment. No matter what.
In support of PPCWNY's mission, the Clinician provides reproductive health care to patients of all ages, in accordance with PPCWNY standards and guidelines.
Essential Functions
  • Reviews and evaluates patient's health history including obstetric, gynecologic, contraceptive, medical, surgical, family health history, and psycho-social backgrounds
  • Performs physical examinations with special emphasis on the reproductive system and perform specialized procedures, per protocol
  • Based on findings and health history, formulate diagnoses and treatment plans for sexually transmitted infections and other gynecological problems in accordance with PPCWNY standards and guidelines
  • Perform pregnancy diagnosis and determine gestational dating using ultrasound exams and pregnancy tests. Counsel in all pregnancy options appropriately. Refer patients for additional counseling as needed
  • Maintains health center productivity standards
  • Assumes legal responsibility in conjunction with PPFA for prescribing, ordering, and dispensing of drugs and supplies in compliance with State and Federal laws and in accordance with PPFA/PPCWNY medical policies and procedures
  • Handles patient telephone follow-up as needed and participate in on-call rotations
  • Provides information and counseling on abortions, sterilization, and all family planning methods. Order, fit, or provide preferred method; manage IUC and implant insertions and removals
  • Provides information and counseling in areas of health maintenance and reproductive care such as nutrition, infertility, sexuality, family planning, menopause, HIV and STI testing, and safer sex techniques
  • Learn and use information about how the needs of diverse patients can be sensitively met
  • Records all appropriate information in the patient's electronic health record utilizing approved format and abbreviations
  • Accurately utilize CPT and ICD-10 coding
  • Performs patient follow-up duties as needed
  • Provides medical abortion medication services
  • Orient and precept licensed health care professionals who are new to the agency
  • Shows respect to all internal and external customers for differences in backgrounds, lifestyles, viewpoints and needs

Other Accountability Activities
  • Participates in Compliance, Quality and Risk Management program; follow-up and report all occurrences to the Health Center Manager and Director of CQRM
  • Provides observational experience for medical and nursing students. May assist with in-service education
  • Consults with the Medical Director on non-routine clinical matters
  • Works on other projects as assigned by the Health Center Manager, Director of Clinical Services, Director of Health Center Operations, Vice President of Health Services, and Medical Director
  • Updates, develops, implements, and monitors medical policies and procedures by collaborating with the Director of Clinical Services, Director of Health Center Operations, Vice President of Health Services, and Medical Director
  • Establishes and maintains professional relationships with other health-care providers in the areas served by Planned Parenthood, including medical referral sources
  • Performs and/or consults on projects/studies as needed (reproductive health clinical trials)
  • Maintains awareness of the agency's projects/initiatives as outlined in the annual plan and participate, as appropriate
  • Comply with credentialing process and practice agreements

Requirements
Qualifications Applicants must possess the following qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience):
Education
  • Master's Degree preferred

Certifications/Licenses
  • Nurse Practitioner: Must have a current New York State license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse Practitioner. Nurse Practitioner must be board certified by the National Certification Corporation, America's Nurses Credentialing Center, or an American Academy of Nurse Practitioners

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills required
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule with ability to travel to health centers across the agency as needed
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid NYS driver's license not in jeopardy of being
  • revoked
