Job description

Job Summary:

The Shuttle Driver supports the University's Transportation Department by operating shuttle routes safely and reliably. This is an individual-contributor role with no direct reports.


Essential Job Functions:

• Operate the campus shuttle bus along its designated route, adhering to the posted schedule

• Coordinate vehicle fueling and maintain accurate fueling records

• Inspect and maintain university vehicles for safety, mechanical operation, and cleanliness; notify the supervisor of any issues

• Coordinate vehicle usage with the supervisor for athletic events, administrative needs, department activities, and student organization activities; communicate with Public Safety for vehicle check-in/check-out

• Track and account for vehicle keys

• Provide vehicle services for university guests and university-sponsored programs

• Maintain accurate vehicle usage records

• Maintain a valid driver's license and an excellent driving record

• Stay in contact with the supervisor via University-provided cell phone, reporting any disruptions to duties, including pickup schedule issues


Other Required Job Functions:

Schedule

• Work additional hours as scheduled to support University needs

Customer Service

• Deliver professional, prompt, and courteous service at all times

• Shuttle vehicles to and from garages or other service providers for maintenance

Events Support

• Serve as a member of the campus events team, assisting with the setup and breakdown of tables, chairs, and related equipment

Athletics

• Provide occasional driving support for athletics teams; some assignments may require out-of-town travel on weekends


Physical Requirements, Skills, & Abilities:

Knowledge of:

• Safety practices and procedures related to vehicles and transportation

• Basic vehicle mechanical principles

• Sound time-management skills to complete assigned responsibilities efficiently and safely

Skill and Ability to:

• Maintain a professional, customer-service-oriented demeanor at all times, and work independently with minimal supervision


Working Conditions and Environment:

• Subject to on-call status, including carrying an on-call phone

• Schedule may shift based on University needs and to accommodate scheduled or emergency functions/projects

• Regular hours consist of a 5-hour shift scheduled between 7:00 AM and 10:00 PM, Friday-Sunday, up to a maximum of 30 hours per week

• Availability required for weekends and holidays as needed

• Appreciable physical activity, including lifting, bending, stretching, standing, and walking across indoor and outdoor terrain, including stairs

• May require use of safety equipment such as gloves and a back belt; must be able to consistently step up 18 inches into and out of vehicles and assist passengers in doing the same

• As a member of the Campus Services support team, assists with special projects as directed, including event setup and teardown
