Position Summary
The Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and regulatory compliance of the dispensary premises, staff, clients, and products. This role includes monitoring entrances and exits, conducting patrols, deterring theft or unauthorized access, and responding to incidents in accordance with company policy and applicable state cannabis regulations. Officers must maintain a high standard of professionalism, discretion, and customer service in a retail healthcare environment. Start early January 2026
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide a visible, deterrent at entrances and other high-risk areas.
  • Monitor and control access to the facility, ensuring only authorized individuals are permitted entry.
  • Conduct interior and exterior patrols of the dispensary premises, including product storage areas, employee entrances, and customer waiting areas.
  • Observe and report suspicious activity, security threats, or non-compliance with company or state regulations.
  • Prevent and respond to incidents involving theft, trespassing, loitering, or disorderly conduct.
  • Monitor security cameras, alarms, and access control systems as assigned.
  • Conduct bag checks, ID verification, or screening as required by dispensary policy.
  • Escort staff during cash handling procedures, product deliveries, or closing operations.
  • Respond to emergencies such as medical incidents, fires, or threats to safety; contact law enforcement or EMS as needed.
  • Complete detailed and accurate incident reports, daily activity logs, and shift hand-off notes.
  • Enforce state cannabis regulations, safety policies, and company code of conduct with professionalism and consistency.
  • Maintain and carry a licensed firearm in accordance with applicable laws and company use-of-force policy.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Minimum 21 years of age (as required by cannabis regulatory laws).
  • Valid BSIS Guard Card (California or equivalent in other states).
  • High school diploma or GED required; additional training or military/law enforcement experience preferred.
  • 1+ years of security experience in retail, high-risk environments, or cannabis facilities preferred.
  • Clean criminal background and ability to pass federal and state background checks for cannabis workers.
  • Strong observational skills, situational awareness, and ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to walk/stand for extended periods and work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able to adhere to state cannabis compliance standards and confidentiality protocols.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally.
  • Manual dexterity for operating radios, handcuffs, and defensive tools.
  • Visual and auditory acuity for monitoring and assessing the environment.
  • Be able to stand an 8-hour shift.
