Job description

The Bakery Decorator is responsible to ensure customer service is provided through maintaining a safe and efficient operation while adhering to all Company policies, procedures and standards.  Provide direction and supervision to Bakery Utility Clerks in the absence of the Bakery Supervisor. The Bakery Decorator position reports directly to the Bakery Supervisor/Bakery Manager, and the main responsibilities include;

  • Provides customer service and maintains positive customer relations through the proper handling of customer questions, comments, request and complaints. Effectively works in a diverse team environment in a proficient and friendly manner. 
  • Performs all aspects of the Bakery Decorator functions including but not limited to stocking, displays, and facing in an efficient and organized manner. Ensures display presentation and stock levels are maintained. 
  • Handles merchandise ensuring quality, minimizing damages and markdowns. Provides substitutions and ensure price integrity including price changes.
  • Performs general cleanup duties such as cleaning spills and display fixtures to ensure neat and organized department. Responsible for keeping the sales floor and back stock area clean from cardboard and debris, as well as disposal of garbage. 
  • Performs duties following established Occupational Health & Safety, Food Safety, and Environmental regulations and policies to ensure the health and safety of all staff and customers.
  • Ensures the proper care, use and maintenance of equipment and tools.  Reports repair requirements to the Bakery or Duty Manager.
  • Responsible for all aspects of ordering merchandise and supplies.
  • Responsible for all aspects of receiving including reviewing/verifying invoices, returns, transfers, claims and proper storage of products.
  • Responsible for organizing and conducting inventory.
  • Provides direction/supervision in the Bakery in the absence of the Supervisor or Manager in the following areas: 
  • Ensures daily functions of staff are carried out in an organized and efficient manner.
    • Ensures that health and safety rules and regulations are followed.
    • Verbal input for employee performance and conduct.
    • Technical training (e.g. department orientation, commodity specific functions, etc) with day-to-day instruction and verbal feedback.
    • Application of effective customer service techniques.
    • Replacing shifts and authorizing appropriate documents.
  • Finishes, inspects, prepares and decorates all baked goods. Cuts and slices all prepared products as required. 
  • Assists in the development of new products, creating designs and special orders. 

What skills and abilities will you need to be considered?

  • Grade 12 or an acceptable combination of education and experience 
  • Combination of bakery and decorating training and experience
  • Must pass in-house Bakery Decorator testing

 What skills and abilities will set you apart from others?

  • Supervisory experience
  • S.A.I.T. or Wilton Decorating course or equivalent experience
