Qualifications
  1. Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements.
  2. Demonstrated record of safe driving experience, meeting minimum standards as determined by the Board of Education.
  3. Basic mechanical aptitude with the ability to identify and address minor vehicle issues.
  4. Ability to maintain appropriate student behavior on the bus to ensure safety, well-being, and protection against vandalism.
  5. Successful completion of required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.

Job Responsibilities
Safety, Maintenance, and Inspection Requirements
  • Conducts a pre-trip safety inspection of the bus before each trip and completes the required School Bus Condition Report.
  • Reports mechanical issues or safety concerns promptly to the Transportation Supervisor.
  • Performs daily interior cleaning of the bus; cleans windows and exterior as needed; and refuels the vehicle.
  • Carries out basic maintenance tasks such as checking and replenishing fluids (water, antifreeze, oil, battery), inflating tires, and replacing bulbs as necessary.
  • Participates in emergency evacuation drills in accordance with state regulations and board policy. Provides students with clear instructions on bus safety and emergency procedures.

Driving and Safe Bus Operations
  • Follows assigned routes and scheduled stops, and adheres to the designated time schedule.
  • Transports only authorized students and ensures that no students remain on the bus at the end of the route.
  • Complies with all traffic laws and school bus safety regulations.
  • Reports any accidents or student injuries immediately to the school principal and Business Administrator and submits all required documentation.
  • In the event of a traffic citation resulting from an accident or police stop, the driver is responsible for any fines, court costs, and mandatory safety training as ordered by the court.
  • Strictly prohibits the use of a cell phone while the vehicle is in operation. Cell phones may only be used when the bus is safely parked, turned off, and in neutral or park.
