Job description

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office is looking for Part-time Patrol Deputies to join our ranks! We are a very progressive law enforcement agency that promotes a Community Policing philosophy. This part-time position requires a commitment to work at least 120hrs per year (and offers a maximum of 1,040hrs per year). Pay is $36.72/hr and is eligible for COLA increases.
Our dedicated and elite Patrol Deputies:
  • Prevent crime by explaining and enforcing applicable federal, state, county, and local laws and ordinances; teaching preventative, protective, and defensive tactics; mediating disputes; patrolling assigned area; responding to notices of disturbances; conducting searches; observing suspicious activities; detaining suspects.
  • Apprehend suspects by responding to complaints and calls for help; observing violations; making arrests.
  • Conduct criminal investigations by gathering evidence; interviewing victims, witnesses and suspects.

To join us in protecting and serving the citizens and visitors of towns in Cumberland County you must:
  • Be at least 21 years of age;
  • Hold a HS Diploma or equivalent;
  • Hold a valid Maine Driver's License;
  • Reside in the State of Maine and not more than 15 miles outside the Cumberland County border.
  • Be certified by the MCJA to work as a fulltime patrol officer.
