Job Summary
The Spindletop Gladys City Boomtown Museum is seeking a motivated and dependable Student Assistant to support daily operations. This position is limited to students who are Federal Work-Study eligible. Responsibilities include engaging with museum visitors, assisting with exhibits, helping at events, and providing excellent customer service in the gift shop.
Essential Job Functions
What You'll Do - Position Responsibilities
  • Greet visitors, sell tickets, and share museum information
  • Operate the gift shop, including cash register operations and cash handling
  • Prepare and close daily sales deposits
  • Assist with museum tours and orientations
  • Represent the museum at events and support event coordination
  • Monitor exhibits for environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, pests)
  • Lightly clean and maintain museum spaces (gift shop, lecture hall, buildings, restrooms)
  • Assist with grounds upkeep and custodial duties as needed
  • Report issues to the Director or the appropriate LU department
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum and Desired Qualifications
  • Must be a current Lamar University student
  • Must be Federal Work-Study eligible (as determined by Financial Aid)
  • Dependable, prompt, and able to follow directions
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work efficiently, accurately, and independently
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, indoors and outdoors
  • Must be able to lift and move 30+ pounds (tables, chairs, supplies)
  • May be exposed to variable weather during events or groundskeeping
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with customer service, cash handling, or gift shop operations
Experience using a cash register
