  • Teach core BJJ fundamentals (guard retention, passing, mounts, side control, back control, submissions, and escapes) with an emphasis on real-world dynamics and street-applicable strategies.
  • Foster a supportive, empowering, and non-intimidating environment that celebrates progress and builds lasting confidence, especially for beginners.
  • Incorporate scenario-based rolling and simulator training to reinforce survival mindset, decision-making, and muscle memory under stress.
  • Collect feedback and attendance data to continuously improve the program; collaborate on special events such as seminars and community safety workshops.
  • Stay current with research-backed best practices in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instruction and self-defense applications.
Ideal Candidate:

  • Strongly Preferred: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt (or equivalent high-level rank) and formal instructor certification (e.g., Gracie Combatives, Gracie Survival Tactics (GST), Rener Gracie programs, or recognized BJJ instructor credentials). Experience teaching co-ed classes is essential.
  • Location: Based in Phoenix metro area.
  • Deep passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and self-defense; background in trauma-informed instruction or coaching is highly valued.
  • Exceptional communication, empathy, and motivational abilities; skilled at creating transformative, judgment-free learning experiences.
  • Must pass background check.
  • Must carry or obtain personal general liability insurance (minimum $1M per occurrence) with United Defense Tactical named as Additional Insured; proof required prior to starting.
Why Join UDT?

  • Flexible contract with clear path to increased hours and full-time as enrollment expands.
  • Full access to our advanced facility, including premium training mats, padded suits, and simulators for the most realistic BJJ scenario training available.
