Job description

Game Day Assistant Needed: Basketball Season

Spirit League: A League for Athletes with Support Needs

Spirit League is a sports league for children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities. Our Youth Program plays three sports per year, including basketball, baseball, and soccer, while our Adult Program plays basketball, soccer, bowling, and flag football. We are a non-profit organization.
Open Position
We seek a part-time, seasonal game day assistant for our youth basketball season. The individual would join our team of other game-day assistants and report to our Athletic Director on game days. The season is eleven weeks long and played on Saturday mornings from March 28 through June 6 (typically 5.5 hours per game day). See below for additional information on seasons.
Responsibilities include:
  • Together with other game day staff, assist in preparing courts and equipment for games;
  • Manage games, assisting coaches and athletes as needed per Spirit League Rules of Game;
  • Help teach basic sports skills to athletes during practice and game time per Spirit League curriculum;
  • Adjust equipment on the court when preparing for the next age division to play;
  • Together with other game day staff, help staff clean up equipment and return to on-site storage;
  • Assist the Athletic Director, as needed, on game day.
Qualifications

·        Candidate should have experience working with children/teens with autism and general knowledge of basketball rules. We play with modified rules and shorter courts. 
·        Since this position includes managing a court of coaches, volunteers, and athletes, the candidate should be confident in independently managing a game/court after the third week with the League. 
·        An understanding of applied behavioral analysis is a plus but not required.

·        Sports seasons are ten weeks long and played on weekends. We are a non-competitive league that focuses on fundamentals and fun.
·        Employment is contingent upon the results of a criminal background check and Live Scan fingerprinting. Additional paid training includes online coach training and online sexual harassment training. CPR/1st Aid/AED Training is required by the third week of employment (wages and registration fee paid by League).Â
