Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Sports Director and/or Sports Coordinator, the position is responsible for officiating adult sports league games for enrolled participants.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Responsible for being prompt and professional during all games and program activities
  • Knowledge of the rules for the YMCA Adult Sports Program and the governing body of the league sanction
  • The ability to work as a team member, communicate effectively to the community.
  • Interact with coaches, other sports officials / umpires, youth, parents and YMCA staff
  • To be able to effectively define rulings made during games to coaches and to players.
  • The umpire will always be required to conduct & present themselves in a professional manner.
  • Once they are at the game site, they will be required to help set up and take down all sports equipment for the day's games.
  • Help out as needed with any YMCA special event that might be held
  • Enforce program rules and policies by maintaining constant surveillance of program participants
  • Report equipment problems
  • Ensure safety of members/participants
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Immediately reports all unusual incidents or accidents to the Sports Director, and fills out all applicable and necessary reports.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Successfully meet the Association's policies on background screening
  • Must have previous playing or officiating experience or have completed referee training clinic
  • Adhere to drug/alcohol/smoke free workplace policy
  • Able to maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills

CERTIFICATIONS AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications preferred
  • Completion of YMCA Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Training annually
  • Completion of YMCA Blood borne Pathogens Training annually
  • Additional training classes as recommended by Supervisor
