Part Time Barber information

What is a part time barber?

Part time barbers are professional hairdressers who work fewer hours than full-time barbers, often on a flexible or reduced schedule. Their main duties include cutting, trimming, and styling hair, as well as providing shaving and grooming services to clients. Part time barbers may work in barbershops, salons, or even travel to clients' locations. This role is ideal for those seeking work-life balance or those pursuing barbering alongside other commitments. They must still hold the appropriate licenses and skills as required by local regulations.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a part time barber?

To thrive as a Part Time Barber, you need proficiency in haircutting, shaving, and grooming techniques, typically backed by a state-issued barber license. Familiarity with tools such as clippers, shears, razors, and sanitation systems is essential, along with knowledge of scheduling or point-of-sale (POS) software. Excellent customer service, active listening, and time management skills help barbers build client relationships and efficiently manage appointments. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering high-quality services, ensuring client satisfaction, and maintaining a loyal clientele in a competitive industry.

How do part time barbers typically manage their schedules and client appointments?

Part-time barbers often have flexible schedules, balancing their hours to accommodate both the needs of their clients and their other commitments. Many work evenings or weekends, which are peak times for client demand, and may use booking apps or salon management software to organize appointments efficiently. Communication with the team and clients is key to ensuring coverage and minimizing scheduling conflicts. This flexibility can be a benefit, but it also requires strong time-management skills and adaptability to changes in client flow.

Can part time barbering be a side hustle?

Yes, part time barbering can be a side hustle, as many barbers work flexible hours outside of full-time employment to increase income. It often involves scheduling appointments during evenings or weekends and may require a barber license and basic barbering tools. This allows for additional earnings while maintaining other employment or commitments.

Part time barber positions are open to individuals of various ages, including those who are 23. Success in becoming a barber depends on completing barber training, obtaining a license, and developing skills such as customer service and haircutting techniques, regardless of age.

Job description

Job Summary

Private Barber - Old School Straight Razor Specialist

Location: Private residence, Etobicoke, Ontario (on-site barbershop)

Job Type: Part-Time / Contract, Recurring Schedule: 3–5 days per week, by appointment (flexible, daytime hours to be coordinated)

Pay: $75–$100/hour (commensurate with experience) Start Date: Immediate

In-Home | Etobicoke, ON, Canada

The Opportunity

A private client is seeking a skilled, old-school barber to provide traditional grooming services at his private residence, which features a fully built-out, professional on-site barbershop. This is a rare opportunity to work in a beautiful, dedicated private shop space with a single discerning client who values craftsmanship, consistency, and an authentic barbershop experience — done right, every time.

The ideal candidate is a true traditionalist: someone who trained in classic barbering technique and takes pride in the ritual of the shave, not just the result.

What You'll Do

  • Provide traditional straight razor shaves, including hot towel prep, warm lather/foam application, and precise multi-pass technique for an impeccably close, clean finish

  • Perform classic haircuts, beard trims, and line-ups as needed

  • Maintain and bring your own straight razors, strops, and grooming tools in excellent condition

  • Uphold the highest standards of hygiene and sanitation for all tools and equipment

  • Deliver a calm, professional, and consistent client experience each visit

  • Travel to the client's private residence in Etobicoke for each appointment (3–5x/week)

  • Maintain strict discretion and confidentiality regarding the client, household, and property

What We're Looking For

  • Valid Ontario Barber License / Certificate of Qualification

  • Extensive hands-on experience with straight razor shaves. This is a core, non-negotiable skill, not an occasional service

  • Formal barbering training or apprenticeship in traditional/classic technique strongly preferred

  • Own professional-grade tools (razors, strops, brushes) in immaculate condition

  • Punctual, reliable, and comfortable committing to a recurring weekly schedule

  • Professional demeanor and high discretion working in a private household setting

  • Reliable transportation to a residential Etobicoke location

  • Clean background check (or willingness to obtain one)

Nice to have (not required): Experience serving high-net-worth or private clients; barbershop ownership or head barber experience; additional grooming services (hot shave facials, beard sculpting).

Compensation & Logistics

  • $75–$100/hour, based on experience and skill level

  • Please note: drive time and mileage are not included in compensation

  • All tools, chair, and shop space are provided on-site; barber supplies own razors and personal kit

  • Schedule and appointment days/times to be coordinated directly with the client

How to Apply

Interested candidates should submit a resume and be prepared to provide any available portfolio, photos, or references demonstrating straight razor shave work. Please be prepared to briefly describe your training background and years of experience with traditional shaving technique. Applications are being reviewed on a rolling basis for immediate start.

This position requires discretion and, where applicable, a signed confidentiality agreement prior to start
