College of Alameda

Laney College
Laney College, in the heart of vibrant, multicultural downtown Oakland, features the cosmopolitan atmosphere and human energy of a big-city university. Laney is adjacent to the Oakland Museum of California, blocks from historic Chinatown and a pleasant stroll from Lake Merritt.
Since 1948, Laney has provided educational opportunities to students throughout the East Bay and beyond. Serving approximately 14,000 students each semester, Laney reflects the incredible diversity of the community that surrounds it and provides opportunities to traditionally underserved populations. Dozens of languages are spoken on Laney's campus each day.
The school boasts a proven track record of success with exceptional educational programs. The college was given full accreditation by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) in summer 2009 - a distinction awarded to only five community colleges out of the 27 reviewed that year. In addition, Laney ranks among the top community colleges in California in transferring students to U.C. Berkeley.
Merritt College
Merritt College is a public, comprehensive, two-year college, maintained by the Peralta Community College District in Alameda County. With a comprehensive day and evening program of transfer, technical, occupational and basic skills education, the College is committed to meeting the educational needs of the diverse student population it serves.
Located on a 125-acre site in the hills of East Oakland, Merritt College combines modern, spacious facilities with a spectacular view of the entire Bay Area. An integral part of a large, busy urban community, the location provides a sense of tranquility and peace.
Berkeley City College
Berkeley City College (BCC), one of California's 112 community colleges, is centrally located in downtown Berkeley, only 1-1/2 blocks from the U.C. campus. The college's mission is to contribute to the success of all students and to the well-being of the community by offering the best possible education which promises intellectual growth, social mobility, economic development and an understanding of diverse ideas and peoples. BCC is ranked second in the state in the percentage of students who transfer to U.C. Berkeley.
BCC serves students who seek general education, transfer to four-year universities, associate degrees and certificates in liberal arts, the sciences, career/technical areas, or foundational skills. BCC students represent a diverse mix of ethnic, cultural and economic backgrounds. Many are the first in their families to attend college. The college is an active partner in local economic development and employment training endeavors and maintains a strong and unique collaboration with U.C. Berkeley. The Peralta Community College District is a two-year college system, dedicated to providing comprehensive educational and community services to the communities it serves, including the cities of Albany, Alameda, Berkeley, Emeryville, Oakland and Piedmont California. The District enrolls over 25,000 students in a broad range of transfer and occupational curricula. The colleges in the District include College of Alameda, Laney College, Merritt College and Berkeley City College, which operate under the governance of a seven- member Board of Trustees and are administered by a Chancellor/Superintendent.

Job Description Summary
The Banking and Finance program introduces students to broad range of banking and finance including asset and liability management, financial decision making, financial markets and institutions, and gaining practical knowledge of accounting and economics core principles.
Coursework includes:
1) an overview of banking system;
2) specific banking functions and the role of banking in the economy;
3) review legal and regulatory issues, including compliance; and
4) explore the Federal Reserve System's policies and operations.
Duties & Responsibilities
Teaching schedule may include evening or weekend hours as part of contract assignment.
Instructors are expected to use and keep abreast of advanced teaching methods, including the use of current and future technologies to support student learning and career objectives.
- Provide class instruction in Banking and Finance in accordance with established course outlines.
- May include teaching other coursework in the Business Department (DOQ)
- Develop and revise courses in the discipline to meet the needs of a diversified student body.
- Foster an inclusive and respectful community of learner that critically explores, investigates and engages in problem-posing analysis of the above topic areas.
- Integrate issues and challenges relating to local, national, and global multicultural/multiethnic/multiracial dynamics, and explore both historically successful and new alternative strategies for addressing these challenges.
- Inform students via syllabi concerning course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance requirements.
- Maintain necessary attendance, scholastic and personnel records, and submits them according to published deadlines.
- Prepare and grade class assignments and examinations and promptly returns them to students.
- Post and maintain required office hours in accordance with the prevailing policy.
- Participate in faculty discussions on curriculum, teaching-learning techniques and teaching materials.
- Participate on departmental, divisional, and campus committees. Develop and revise courses in the discipline
The Instructor is also responsible for providing a full professional service week that may include, but is not limited to, the following:
- Teaching, teaching preparation, maintenance of office hours and student advising, and maintenance of student rosters, class records and grade completion in accordance with District policy and procedures;
- Performing departmental duties such as program and curriculum development, evaluation and revision, and selecting appropriate instructional materials, and working with administrators and other faculty to develop a comprehensive pre-collegiate program;
- Participation in professional activities such as departmental and campus committee work, faculty peer evaluations, staff meetings and participation in the governance structure of the College and District;
- Pursuing professional growth activities to remain current in discipline and teaching methodology;
- Performing professional outreach activities (e.g., working with administrators and other faculty, as part of course development and depending on need, by participating in an industry advisory committee for a program, working with inter-segmental education partners-such as high school, adult school and other colleges-and industry partners to design and implement effective basic skills curricula and career pathways in the discipline, etc.); and
- Performing other related duties as assigned by the College.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Possession of any Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university AND two(2) years of experience in Banking and Finance.
OR
2. Possession of any Associate Degree from an accredited college AND six (6) years of experience in Banking and Finance.
OR
3. May submit a fully satisfied lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential authorizing service to teach courses in Banking and Finance.
(California credentials were no longer issued after July 1, 1990).

4. The equivalent qualifications.
(Candidates who claim equivalency must provide conclusive evidence, as clear and reliable on the college transcripts as required on the District Equivalency Application Form. Refer to the Equivalency Procedures below. This is not a process to waive the minimum qualifications.)
5. Applicant must have demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college staff, faculty, and students.

• Evidence of strong commitment to professional growth and development and to the continued innovation and improvement of teaching.
• Interest and ability to develop and/or revise online and transfer-level courses within the curriculum.
• Experience in exploring the use of Open Educational Resources to create Zero Textbook Cost courses.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

REQUIRED FOR ALL EMPLOYEES
Tuberculosis Examination: Prior to employment, the successful candidate will be required to submit evidence (either skin test or X-ray report) of being free of tuberculosis within the past sixty (60) days. The TB test is a condition of employment and any expense must be borne by the successful candidate.
Fingerprinting Requirement: As a condition of employment, all employees working for community colleges in the State of California are required to be fingerprinted within the first ten (10) working days of the date of employment pursuant to Education Code Section 88024.
Immigration Requirement: According to the Immigration Reform and Control Act, the Peralta Community College District is required to verify that all new employees are legally authorized to work in the United States.
All new employees are required to complete and sign a verification form and provide documentation attesting that he/she is legally authorized to work in the United States.
District Policy: A Social Security Card will be required following selection and prior to completion of the hiring process. The employment process cannot be completed without a copy of the Social Security Card on file in the Office of Human Resources.
Medical Examination: Under state regulations and as a condition of employment, certain positions may require a medical examination prior to employment. Expenses incurred will be borne by the employee.
