THE OPPORTUNITY
Join our team as a Part-Time Audio Visual Technician! This entry-level position offers the chance to be a part of production teams, operate state-of-the-art AV systems, and contribute to the city's public outreach through live broadcasts, filming, editing, and more. In this part-time role, you will lead AV production for City events, including live broadcasts, meetings, and press conferences. This position offers the opportunity to design, install, and troubleshoot AV systems in City facilities while maintaining a flexible work schedule.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
Our ideal Part-Time Audio Visual Technician is a creative and technically proficient audio-visual professional with experience in video production, broadcasting, and multimedia content creation. They are skilled in operating cameras, audio and lighting equipment, video editing software, and graphics applications, and can support both live and recorded productions. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills enable them to manage multiple projects, troubleshoot technical issues, and work effectively with City staff, officials, and the public. The successful candidate is adaptable, detail-oriented, and committed to producing high-quality content that informs and engages the community.
MINIMUM AND DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from a college or university with a major in communications, radio or television production, journalism or a closely related field; and one year of experience in television programming or production; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Audio Visual Technician is the entry-level cable production position. Incumbents perform duties of routine to moderate difficulty while learning practices, procedures, and creative processes associated with cable channel production, programming, and broadcasting. Assignments may vary in difficulty and complexity, and the incumbent is expected to have the experience, expertise, and demonstrated creativity and proficiency to perform required tasks.

Video Appraisal Interview

Technical Interview:
Selected applicants will be invited to participate in a structured technical interview designed to evaluate job-related knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and proficiency in key competencies required for the position. Candidates will respond to a series of standardized questions, and their performance will be assessed using predetermined evaluation criteria to ensure a fair and consistent appraisal process.
Based on the Department's needs, the selection procedures listed above may be modified. All candidates will be notified of any changes in the selection procedure.
Eligible List: Once the appraisal is complete, HR will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
