Part Time Assistant information

What is a part time assistant?

Part time assistants are employees who provide support to an organization or individual for fewer hours than a standard full-time schedule, typically working less than 35-40 hours per week. Their duties vary depending on the employer and can include administrative tasks, scheduling, data entry, and other support functions. Part time assistants are valued for their flexibility and ability to help teams manage workloads without the commitment of a full-time hire.

What are part-time assistant jobs?

As a part-time assistant, you may serve as customers’ first point of contact by performing receptionist and administrative duties in an office. In other roles, you may provide clerical support for managers and executives, fulfilling duties that range from taking notes during calls and meetings to arranging travel itineraries. You organize paperwork, answer phones and emails, and sort and distribute correspondence. You also assist management with staffing, scheduling, and maintaining operational records like employment files. In some roles, your responsibilities also include financial activities, such as performing bank deposit reconciliation and processing vendor payments. In general, you work to create an orderly and efficient work environment and support busy leaders in achieving their business goals and priorities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Assistant, you generally need strong organizational abilities, time management skills, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with office software like Microsoft Office Suite, email systems, and sometimes scheduling tools is commonly required. Excellent communication, reliability, and a proactive attitude help individuals excel in supporting teams and managing multiple tasks. These competencies ensure smooth daily operations and enable efficient support in dynamic work environments.

What are some common challenges faced by part-time assistants, and how can they be managed effectively?

Part-time assistants often juggle multiple tasks within limited working hours, which can make prioritizing responsibilities a challenge. Communication is key—regular check-ins with supervisors and team members help ensure clarity on urgent tasks and expectations. Additionally, adapting quickly to different assignments and maintaining organizational skills are crucial for managing workload effectively. By staying proactive and open to feedback, part-time assistants can overcome these challenges and contribute positively to their teams.

Job description

Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner - Oculofacial & Aesthetic Surgery
Part-Time• Immediate Opening
Who We Are
The Aesthetic Center at Virginia Institute is a specialty oculofacial plastic surgery practice led by William Bearden, MD, a fellowship-trained oculofacial plastic surgeon with expertise in aesthetic and reconstructive eyelid, orbital, and facial surgery. Our practice blends precision surgical care with a thriving cosmetic and medical program- including a full Sciton laser platform, cosmetic and medical Botox, facial fillers and a variety of periocular procedures.
Dr. Bearden believes in building a team where advanced practice providers are trusted collaborators, not support staff. You will work directly alongside an experienced oculofacial plastic surgeon, practice at the top of your license, see interesting patients, perform meaningful procedures, and be part of a practice that genuinely invests in your professional growth.
The Opportunity
This is a rare role that combines the procedural depth of a surgical practice with the creativity and patient relationship-building of an aesthetic program. If you are a PA or NP who is energized by doing things - not just documenting them - this position was built for you.
After appropriate training, you will have a genuine scope of practice that includes:
Surgical & Procedural
  • First-assist opportunities during select oculofacial procedures
  • Excision and biopsy of facial and periocular skin lesions (papillomas, nevi, cysts, etc.)
  • Incision and curettage of chalazion
  • Medical Botox (blepharospasm, hemifacial spasm)
  • Post-operative care and suture removal for our surgical patients
  • Wound assessment and minor complication management

Aesthetic & Laser
  • Sciton laser platform: BBL, HALO Hybrid Fractional, MicroLaserPeel and assist with TRL.

(Sciton-specific experience preferred but not required- formal training provided for the right candidate)
  • Cosmetic Botox
  • Facial filler
  • Skincare counseling for laser and surgical patients

Clinical & Patient Care
  • New patient consultations and follow-up visits
  • Prescriptive authority within oculofacial scope

Practice support & Content
  • Contribute to social media content creation and posting - authentic, educational, patient-facing
  • Participate in case documentation, photography coordination, and before/after content coordination with in-house marketing team
  • Represent the practice brand in a professional and engaging way online

What We Are Looking For
  • Active Virginia PA or NP license (or eligible for licensure by start date)
  • NCCPA certification
  • Genuine interest in oculofacial and cosmetic surgery and aesthetic medicine
  • Enjoy working with your hands
  • Sciton or laser experience a strong plus; formal training provided for the right candidate
  • Botox and filler injection experience preferred but training available.
  • Comfortable working independently with physician available by phone
  • Professional, warm patient communication style
  • Enthusiasm for social media and content as part of patient education and practice growth

What We Offer
Compensation
Competitive salary commensurate with experience
Malpractice coverage provided
CME allowance and paid CME days
Paid time off
Professional Growth
Sciton laser certification training (if needed)
Mentorship in oculofacial procedural techniques
Opportunity to expand scope as practice grows
