Job Description

Ensures public safety and regulatory compliance by inspecting commercial vehicles, transportation infrastructure, and operational practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections aligned with FMCSR, OSHA, and DOT regulations.

"Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR)"

• Perform pretrip, enroute, and posttripvehicle inspections.

• Verify Hours of Service, ELD data, permits, and hazardous materials placarding.

• Support roadways, pavement, and NBISbridge inspection activities.

"Bridge inspection standards (NBIS)"

• Document findings using digital reporting systems.

• Communicate clearly with drivers and the public; apply deescalation techniques.

Required Nevada Certifications

These are the standard certificationsfor DOTaligned inspection roles in Nevada:

• Nevada Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) Inspector Certification- Required for commercial motor vehicle enforcement and safety inspections.

• Nevada DOT Level I-III Inspector Credentials- Covers full vehicle, driver, and hazardous materials inspections.

• Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Inspection Endorsement- Required for placarding and hazardous materials compliance checks.

• Hazardous material placarding

• NBIS Bridge Inspection Certification- Required for bridge and structural inspections.

• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30- Required for safety compliance roles.

• OSHA safety basics

• ELD/Hours of Service Verification Training- Required for electronic logging device enforcement.

• Optional:FAA airfield safety awareness, rail/transit inspection modules (if assigned).

• FAA compliance awareness

Skills & Competencies

• Strong regulatory knowledge (DOT, FMCSR, OSHA).

• Ability to identify safety defects and violations.

• Proficiency with inspection tools and digital reporting platforms.

• Clear communication and conflict management.
