JOB DESCRIPTION.
Second Baptist School University-Model (SBSUM) is currently accepting applications for a PART-TIME ART TEACHER at the Memorial Campus for the 2026-2027 school year.
  • Position Title: Art Teacher
  • Reports To: Dean of Fine Arts
  • Work Calendar: Ten Months (September-May, with training dates in August)

JOB SUMMARY.
An SBSUM teacher must be able to plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program in primary and secondary classrooms that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic and artistic potential. Teacher work is performed under the leadership of the Dean of Fine Arts and the Dean of Campus.
The Art Teacher will cultivate creativity, discipline, and artistic expression through a distinctly Christian and classical educational framework while helping students appreciate truth, beauty, and goodness through the visual arts.
RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES.
Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Teach Mondays, Wednesdays, and half-day on Fridays
  • Teach PreK-12 art classes as assigned
  • Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans and instructional materials
  • Teach foundational art techniques, artistic principles, and creative expression
  • Prepare students for art showcases, exhibitions, and campus events
  • Assist with Fall and Spring showcases and other fine arts events
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of SBSUM
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and development
  • Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by school administration
  • Actively participate in school departmental and parent meetings
  • Observe and evaluate student performance and development to provide appropriate feedback and prepare required reports on students and activities
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities to students, colleagues, and parents
  • Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities
  • Assign and evaluate classwork, projects, and assignments
  • Obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls, and answer emails
  • Participate in professional development activities
  • Supervise extracurricular activities that include social and sporting events, club activities, and student organization meetings

CANDIDATE SUMMARY.

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; a master's degree in education, art, or a related field is preferred
  • A strong Christian testimony and a calling to serve as a positive Christian role model to our students
  • Strong content knowledge in visual arts instruction
  • A heart to provide exceptional customer service to all members of the community
  • A desire to lead and support all school-wide initiatives
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in technology (such as MacOS, iOS, and Google Workspace)
  • Strong organizational skills
  • A responsible steward of the school's resources and a commitment to support the school's fundraising efforts as able
  • State and/or classical teaching certification

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED.
To perform this job successfully, candidates must:
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
  • Report to work on a regular and punctual basis
  • Meet professional teacher education requirements of SBSUM
  • Have experience teaching visual arts across multiple grade levels
  • Demonstrate proficiency in a variety of artistic mediums such as drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, and design
  • Foster creativity while teaching foundational artistic techniques and principles
  • Stay up to date with and be willing to learn new technologies related to art instruction
  • Maintain an organized and safe classroom environment for art materials and equipment
  • Perform other related work to accomplish the objectives of the total school program

Ideal candidates should possess strong artistic proficiency and have at least three years of teaching experience.
An advanced degree, University-Model and/or classical teaching experience, and prior knowledge of Second Baptist Church and School are considered a plus.
