Job description

Ravenscroft School seeks a Head Varsity Baseball Coach & Program Head to lead and develop our student-athletes in a competitive, character-driven program. This role is responsible for all aspects of the baseball program, including skill instruction, practice planning, game management, and program administration. The ideal candidate brings a strong knowledge of baseball, experience coaching youth or high school athletes, and a deep commitment to the academic and athletic mission of Ravenscroft School. This is a seasonal, part-time position covering the spring sports season (approximately February-May). REPORTS TO: Director of Athletics
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: May supervise assistant coaches and student managers as assigned
What You'll Do
Program Leadership
  • Serve as Head Coach of Varsity Baseball and oversee all levels of the program as applicable
  • Develop and implement a unified program philosophy, standards of play, and team culture
  • Lead and evaluate program coaches to ensure alignment in player development and expectations
  • Support long-term planning, including player development pathways and off-season programming

Player and Coach Development
  • Design and implement structured practice plans and training programs
  • Teach and demonstrate sport-specific fundamentals, techniques, and team strategy
  • Promote sportsmanship, leadership, accountability, and personal growth among student-athletes
  • Utilize Hudl or similar video and performance analysis platforms to support player and team development

Operations, Communication and Compliance
  • Oversee game-day operations, equipment management, and team travel logistics
  • Maintain required records, rosters, injury reports, and department documentation
  • Serve as the primary communicator for the program with students, families, alumni, and school leadership
  • Foster an inclusive team culture aligned with Ravenscroft's commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB)
  • Enforce all school policies and comply with conference, state, and transportation regulations

QUALIFICATIONS
Required
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of baseball and fundamental coaching principles
  • Experience leading or contributing to a competitive baseball program
  • Experience working with adolescent student-athletes in an educational or athletic setting
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Must successfully complete all school, conference, and state-required coaching certifications and training
  • Commitment to the mission of Ravenscroft School

Preferred
  • Previous experience coaching or playing baseball at the high school, collegiate, or club level
  • CDL with school bus endorsement, or willingness to obtain if requested
  • Experience working in a K-12 or independent school environment

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
School-based environment with regular presence on Ravenscroft's athletic facilities, including fields and team areas. Travel to away contests is required. Evening and weekend availability is required.
Active physical participation is required, including demonstrating drills, remaining on feet for extended periods, and lifting and moving athletic equipment. Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals with disabilities.
