Examples of Duties
The Registered Veterinary Technician is responsible for providing medical and veterinary care to animals in the Shelter, and for monitoring, administering, and safeguarding medicines and controlled substances. This position serves as a lead position to the Senior Animal Care Technicians and, in-turn, receives supervision from the Animal Services Supervisor.Under general supervision from the Animal Services Supervisor, performs the full array of duties within the City's Shelter. Duties include the care of impounded animals, cleaning and maintenance of facilities, and assistance to citizens looking to reclaim impounded animals or adopt new animals.

Typical Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
(The following are minimal qualifications necessary for entry into the classification.) Education and/or Experience: Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for an Animal Care Technician. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of six (6) months of experience in an animal care environment involving care, handling, and sheltering of animals or the performance of related work, and a High School diploma or GED.
  • Must be physically fit to work with animals and be able to lift and carry up to one hundred (100) pounds.
  • Must be able to participate with the required City's Adjusted Workweek Schedule, and work weekends, holidays, and evenings on a rotating shift in order to provide seven day a week coverage for the humane treatment and care for the animals in the shelter.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATES
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid class "C" California driver's license.
  • Licensed as a Registered Veterinary Technician

All part-time/hourly employees are considered at-will and receive the following benefits:
