Part Time Ai Developer information

What types of projects and responsibilities can I expect as a part-time AI Developer?

As a part-time AI Developer, you’ll typically be involved in tasks such as developing and testing machine learning models, assisting with data preprocessing, and collaborating with full-time engineers or data scientists on ongoing projects. You may also be responsible for implementing algorithms, conducting research to improve model performance, and helping to integrate AI solutions into existing systems. The part-time nature of the role often means working on specific modules or features rather than overseeing end-to-end product development, and you’ll likely participate in regular meetings to align with the broader team’s goals. This structure allows for valuable hands-on experience while maintaining a flexible schedule.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time AI Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time AI Developer, you need a solid background in computer science, programming (especially Python), and foundational knowledge in machine learning or data science, often supported by a relevant degree or coursework. Familiarity with frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch, version control systems like Git, and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, time management, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for success in a flexible, project-based environment. These skills and qualities enable you to deliver high-quality AI solutions efficiently while collaborating remotely or across teams.

What is a Part Time AI Developer?

A Part Time AI Developer is a professional who works on artificial intelligence projects, such as developing machine learning models, natural language processing tools, or AI-powered applications, but does so on a part-time basis. These developers may work for a single company, as freelancers, or on multiple projects at once. The role typically requires programming skills, knowledge of AI frameworks, and experience with data analysis, but allows for flexible hours. Part time AI Developers are in demand for startups, research teams, and organizations that need AI expertise without a full-time commitment.

AI Developer
The Opportunity:
As an experienced AI engineer, you know that AI systems are critical to understanding and processing massive datasets in an organization. Your ability to conduct statistical analyses on business processes using ML techniques makes you an integral part of delivering a customer-focused solution. We need your technical knowledge and desire to problem-solve to support optimizing organizational efficiency. As an AI Developer on our Air Power team, you'll train, test, deploy, and maintain models that learn from data.
In this role, you'll own and define the direction of critical solutions by applying cutting-edge Agentic frameworks. You'll be part of a large community of AI professionals across the company and collaborate with data engineers, data scientists, solutions architects, and product owners to deliver world-class solutions to transform how the Air Force manages its day-to-day business. Your skills and extensive technical expertise will guide clients as they navigate the landscape of Agentic Frameworks.
Join us. The world can't wait.
You Have:
  • 2+ years of experience building production-grade software in Python, TypeScript, or Java with APIs and data services, including FastAPI, Flask, REST, GraphQL, or SQL
  • Experience developing and deploying AI-enabled applications such as LLMs, RAG, and agentic workflows to solve mission problems
  • Experience building secure data foundations on enterprise cloud platforms such as AWS, governed ingest and file exchange, data catalog and metadata, and data mesh-style data products to enable reuse across teams and bases
  • Ability to design event-driven integrations and workflow automation such as asynchronous messaging or audit logging to move from insight to action
  • Ability to implement MLOps or DevSecOps practices such as CI/CD, containerization, automated testing, or model evaluation
  • Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or Physics

Nice If You Have:
  • Experience working with geospatial or 3D data, including point clouds, LiDAR, or photogrammetry, or digital-twin or facility and asset data models
  • Experience integrating sensor streams or IoT telemetry and edge-to-cloud data flows such as Kafka, NATS, RabbitMQ, or equivalent for asset monitoring and situational awareness
  • Experience deploying software and data or ML pipelines in disconnected, air-gapped, or classified environments
  • Experience with cross-domain data handling constraints
  • Experience with RMF or STIG-aligned delivery
  • Experience with AI-assisted software development tools and practices such as code copilots, automated tests, or secure-by-design patterns to increase delivery velocity responsibly
  • TS/SCI clearance

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; Secret clearance is required.
