Description
General Job BriefThe Voice Instructor's primary duty is to teach undergraduate private instruction in Music-related courses. The Voice Instructor will teach MLV111: Applied Lessons: Voice with potential for other Voice or Musical Theatre courses as assigned by the Department Chair: Diction for Singers, Song Repertoire, and Musical Theatre Workshop. Successful candidates will have a proven record of success in a wide array of classical, CCM, and musical theatre styles. In addition, the candidate will have an active performing career, demonstrating potential for continued success and contribution to the field. Instructors are responsible for preparation and delivery of all course materials--including the syllabus, lecture, and other course delivery preparation, while keeping attendance records. Primary duty is to instruct undergraduate students in Private Voice Lessons with support toward Recitals, Concerts, and Studio Classes. This role also requires a comprehensive understanding of and commitment to the unique Christian mission and vision of ACU to Transform Culture with Truth, and the ability to advance that mission and vision through the performance of its duties, including person-to-person mentorship and discipleship.
Typical Duties
Primary Duties

  • Instruction of student(s) in private lesson environment.
  • Development of written syllabi and required course materials.
  • Supervision and instruction of students in the classroom, keeping attendance, private instruction, and/or lab settings.
  • Student assessment and recording grades.
  • Scheduling, preparing, and supervising course appropriate performances, i.e. Recitals, Studio Classes, Concerts, Chapel services, etc.
  • Participation in departmental and university-wide meetings and committees.
  • Attendance at mandatory Adjunct Faculty Orientation.
  • Maintaining office hours to advise and assist students.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean and Department Chair.
  • Provide spiritual support and prayer to students and staff.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaboration, organization, and efficiency are critical to success in this role.
  • Completing other duties and tasks with utmost integrity and professionalism, as directed, and not necessarily mentioned in this description, will be expected.
  • Commitment to the University's faith statement, mission, and purposes; and an active Christian faith.
  • Comfort and familiarity with the practice of praying with and for others, including students, faculty, and fellow University staff.
  • The ability to meaningfully support and encourage students, faculty, and staff from a biblical worldview perspective, using relevant and applicable references from the Old and New Testaments and orthodox Christian writings.
  • Demonstrated alignment with and enthusiastic support for the Christian Mission and Core Commitments of the University, including signing the University's Statement of Faith and Core Commitments annually.

Education and Experience
  • Master's degree in Music is required, a Doctorate is desirable; voice performance or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of higher education teaching experience in the field of Music and/or specified Music discipline is highly desirable.

Ability and Skills
  • Demonstrate advanced ability in specified music discipline.
  • Ability to teach in a variety of musical genres, including music in the classical tradition, CCM, and musical theatre, cultivating versatility and sustainability.
  • Ability to contribute to recruitment events; desire to build a university voice studio preferred.
  • Strong oral presentation and written skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others and to work harmoniously with related personnel.
  • Professional, energetic, positive attitude, self motivated, resourceful, and persistent with careful attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience with various instructional delivery systems including integration of technology into coursework.
  • Requires working on a computer, PC or laptop; ability to work these and office related equipment.

Time Required
This is a part-time Adjunct Teaching position. Work hours are subject to:
  • Preparation of class schedule and syllabi prior to semester start.
  • Meeting classes and performances on all days and for the complete times indicated on the official ACU semester class schedule.
  • Complete all grading to submit Final Grades by stated deadline.
  • Attendance of required Faculty meetings.
