What is a part time actor?

A Part Time Actor is a performer who takes on acting roles on a less-than-full-time basis, often in theater, film, television, commercials, or other productions. These actors may work on specific projects, attend auditions, and rehearse while balancing other jobs or commitments. Part-time acting can be a stepping stone to a full-time career or a flexible way to pursue a passion for performance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time actor?

To thrive as a Part Time Actor, you need strong performing skills, the ability to interpret scripts, and often some formal training in acting or theatre. Familiarity with audition processes, use of audiovisual recording equipment, and occasionally union memberships (such as SAG-AFTRA) can be important. Standout soft skills include adaptability, confidence, punctuality, and the ability to take direction well. These attributes enable actors to deliver compelling performances and work effectively with directors and production teams in diverse settings.

What are the typical work schedules and environments for a part time actor?

Part time actors often have variable work schedules, depending on the production's needs, rehearsal times, and performance or filming dates. You might work evenings, weekends, or irregular hours to accommodate shows, auditions, or shoots. The work environments can range from theaters and film sets to television studios or even commercial locations. It's common to collaborate closely with directors, other actors, and production staff, so flexibility and strong communication skills are valuable. This dynamic structure allows actors to pursue other pursuits or jobs alongside their acting career.

How to get into part-time acting?

To get into part-time acting, start by gaining acting experience through community theater, acting classes, or workshops. Build a professional headshot and resume, then audition for local productions or casting calls online. Networking with industry professionals and staying persistent are key to securing part-time acting roles.

What are good part-time jobs for actors?

Part-time jobs suitable for actors include roles such as retail associates, brand ambassadors, or event staff, which often offer flexible hours. Other options include working as a voice-over artist, teaching acting classes, or assisting in film and theater productions, leveraging their performance skills and industry experience.

Description

Guardian Light Family Services (GLFS) is dedicated to strengthening families and helping children thrive by providing compassionate, hands-on support every day. Our mission is to empower families to create safe, nurturing environments where everyone can reach their full potential. We believe our employees are our greatest asset, and we are committed to fostering a workplace where every team member feels supported, respected, and inspired to grow. At GLFS, you'll find a collaborative environment, opportunities for professional development, and a shared passion for making a meaningful difference in the lives of families across Nebraska.

Your Future Team

Our team is passionate about making a difference-one family at a time. We use our knowledge, resources, and teaching skills to influence positive change and build healthier communities across Nebraska.

Success Story:

When I first started working with a family, they were struggling to find stability and connect with community resources. Through weekly visits, skill-building sessions, and lots of encouragement, I watched the parents gain confidence and the children thrive in a safer, more nurturing environment. Seeing their progress and knowing I played a part in their journey is what makes this work so meaningful.

From your first week, you'll be paired with a direct supervisor & mentor who will help you navigate your new role, answer questions, and support your ongoing development.

Key Responsibilities:

Guide and mentor families, acting as a bridge to community resources, services, and support networks

Provide one-on-one skill teaching and coaching to parents and caregivers

Supervise parenting time (visitation) and, when needed, facilitate drug testing services as part of family support plans

Transport children to supervised visits with their parents (GLFS provides car seats as needed)

Maintain autonomy and a flexible schedule while meeting assigned case hours

Attend weekly meetings and training with your supervisor, as well as monthly agency-wide training

Participate in 40+ hours of paid/invested initial training (including job shadows and supervisor support), with continuing education and professional development opportunities throughout your tenure

Work Schedule:

All positions start as part-time, with the opportunity to scaffold to consistent full-time work based on performance and agency needs.

Compensation & Benefits:

$20-22/hour, plus an additional $3/hour differential for weekend work (Saturdays and Sundays)

Mileage reimbursement for client-related travel

40+ hours of paid/invested initial training (including job shadows and supervisor support), with continuing education and professional development opportunities throughout your tenure

Full-Time Benefits:

Medical, dental, and vision insurance
