JOB TITLE: Crossing Guard

DEPARTMENT: Plant Operations

REPORTS TO: Director of Plant Operations or Senior Coordinator

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part-Time 4 hours per day, 10- month Contract

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred.

Experience: None required. Training will be provided.

Skills: Ability to read and understand instructions. Ability to communicate effectively with students and adults.

SUMMARY: Provides for the safe crossing of students and pedestrians at designated crosswalks before and after school. Ensures traffic safety and promotes a secure environment for students traveling to and from school.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: These statements are intended to describe the responsibilities assigned to the position and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required.

  • Ensure crosswalks are safe and clear prior to escorting students across the roadway.


  • Assist students and pedestrians in crossing streets safely.


  • Monitor traffic and use appropriate safety procedures to control vehicle flow as needed.


  • Maintain a visible and alert presence at assigned crossing locations.


  • Communicate in a friendly and professional manner with students, parents, staff, and community members.


  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions.


ESSENTIAL BEHAVIOR: Ability to use sound judgment in any situation. Ability to deal successfully and rapidly with changes in assignments and respond appropriately to communication received. Ability to project a professional district image through in-person, phone, and electronic interaction. Ability to build and foster harmonious rapport and work cooperatively with District staff and the public while achieving the objectives and goals of the position. Ability to handle problematic and/or difficult situations professionally by communicating with the appropriate person. Must observe district policies, including non-smoking policy.

ATTENDANCE STATEMENT: Able to be in attendance for assigned responsibilities with 95% attendance.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:Primarily outside working conditions with exposure to extreme environmental conditions. Must be able to work in all types of weather.
