Job description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Survey Crew Chief inSalt Lake City. The Survey Crew Chief will be responsible for conducting a variety of survey assignments to include horizontal and vertical control, ROW and boundary retracements, DOT projects, railroad and municipal surveys throughout the Rocky Mountain Region. Experience utilizing Trimble equipment is preferred.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Lead and supervise a survey crew in conducting field surveys, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, and maintaining high-quality work standards.
  • Interact with engineers, other surveyors and project managers to understand project requirements, provide updates on survey progress, and address any concerns or issues that arise during the survey process.
  • Conduct field surveys using total stations, GPS equipment, terrestrial scanning, UAS, levels and other surveying instruments to collect accurate measurements and data.
  • Ensure routine maintenance and calibration of surveying equipment is completed annually. Coordinate equipment repairs and replacements as needed.
  • Ensure work truck maintenance is completed along with mileage logs and safety audits. The assigned work truck is a responsibility of the crew chief.
  • Prepare detailed field notes, sketches, images and reports documenting survey activities, observations, and findings.
  • Maintain accurate records of survey data, equipment inventory, and project documentation.
  • Implement quality control procedures, review survey data/reports for completeness, and accordance with project requirements.
  • Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to junior surveyors to enhance their skills and knowledge in surveying techniques, equipment operation, and safety practices.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards governing surveying practices.

Annual Salary Range: $30.00 - $40.00 (Depending on Experience)

Required Experience:

  • Proficiency in surveying techniques, methods, and equipment, utilizing robotic total stations, GPS receivers, and digital levels.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage a crew and collaborate with Wilson & Company staff during project execution.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail, with a focus on delivering accurate and reliable survey data.
  • Familiarity with surveying software for data processing and analysis.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience working as a Survey Crew Chief.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Preference to candidates with Trimble surveying equipment experience.
  • Willingness to travel for work assignments away from Salt Lake City.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • FAA Part 107 UAS pilot license is preferred.
