Description PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION The purpose of this classification is to perform manual work associated with projects within the Parks & Recreation Department. *OPEN UNTIL FILLED* Examples of Duties ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.

Other duties may be required and assigned. Assists with maintaining, all County Parks and Facilities. When instructed, assists with maintaining select right-of-way County roads, sidewalks and walkways.

Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure the safety of other employees and the public. If operational tempo dictates the employee may be asked to operate or assist with other projects located both on and off of the right of way. This may include the operation of a variety of light equipment, machinery, and tools as necessary to support essential functions, which may include Turf Mowers (both push and ride), Wood Chipper, High Pressure Pipe Jetter, Skid Steer, Motorized Broom.

Locates underground utilities. Operates a variety of hand and power tools. Assists with the lay-out of construction projects.

Cleans up storm damage. Collects litter and debris from park facilities. Performs minor routine maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, refueling vehicles, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, replacing parts, washing or cleaning equipment, or cleaning shop or work areas; checking air, tires, blades, belts, hoses, and lubrication.

Monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment. Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS Performs other related duties as required.

Typical Qualifications KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION Knowledge of the geography of the county, including roads and landmarks. Knowledge of road maintenance and repair principles. Knowledge of department safety guidelines.

Knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Knowledge of mathematics. Skill in the operation and maintenance of a variety of road maintenance equipment.

Skill in the operation of hand and power tools. Skill in research and in preparing reports. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or GED; training in flagging traffic; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license. Includes judging whether readily observable functional, structural or compositional characteristics are similar to or divergent from prescribed standards, procedures or routines.

Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions. Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a variety of reference data and information.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties which are often characterized by frequent change. ADA COMPLIANCE Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds). Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals.

Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally. Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, or traffic hazards.
