The City of Stoughton Public Works Department is looking for a non-exempt, part-time year-round employee (1039 hours annually) who will complement its already strong and outstanding team of professionals.

The City of Stoughton is looking for an energetic person to assist the Parks Division. The position hours during the peak season is 40 hours per week from April through October. During the off-peak months, the position hours are variable and dependent on the weather conditions.

During Peak season, the work hours are typically Monday-Thursday from 6:30 am until 3:30 pm and Friday from 6:30 am until 10:30 am. This position will assist with snow removal in the winter as needed. Work hours and schedule may vary based on weather conditions, and there may be some weekend responsibilities.

Weekend hours will be paid at fifty cents above the regular pay rate. Under the direction of the Parks Maintenance Supervisor, the Parks Laborer performs functions necessary for the maintenance of the City's Parks and sidewalks. Daily work plans are discussed with a daily review of progress.

There is frequent interaction with the public and other parks/public works staff. This position will remain open until filled. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The following duties are the primary duties of this position, but do not compose an exclusive or all-encompassing list of duties.

Other duties may be assigned or required to accomplish the main goals of this position. Assists Public Works Department as directed by the Public Works Parks Supervisor. Perform mowing and maintenance of park grounds, facilities and trails, including ball diamonds, Troll Beach, bike track, disc golf course and facilities.

Performs snow and ice removal on sidewalks and parking lots during the winter months. Assists with Parks maintenance projects. Provides assistance with facility repair and construction projects.

Performs routine minor equipment and vehicle maintenance. Operates a variety of equipment such as pick-up truck, end loaders, skid steer, jack hammers, vibrating roller, various sized mowers, weed whacker, tractors, stump grinder, chainsaw, brush chipper, snow removal equipment (snow blower, shovel), and other equipment as needed. While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.

Prepares ball diamonds for games. Removes litter/trash from parks. Performs other related duties & functions as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS Education/Training/Certifications High school diploma or equivalent Valid Driver's license Ability to be flexible with days and hours of work Ability to pass background check JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Language Ability and Interpersonal Skills Ability to follow specific instructions and respond to requests from others. Ability to communicate effectively with the director, all department personnel, other City departments, students, volunteers, citizens and the public. Mathematical Skills Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; and to calculate percentages and decimals.

Reasoning Ability Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic or schedule form. Physical Abilities Requires the ability to operate equipment and machinery such as trucks and equipment, mowers, tools, requiring monitoring multiple conditions and making multiple, complex and rapid adjustments. Ability to make minor repairs to equipment and machinery.

Requires the ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet and limbs in performing movements requiring skill and training, such as using and maintaining equipment. Tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling moderately heavy objects and materials, twenty to fifty pounds. Requires the ability to recognize and identify similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, shapes and sounds associated with job-related objects, materials and tasks.

TYPICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT Ability to work under conditions that require exposure to environmental factors such as temperature and noise extremes, toxic agents or machinery. This exposure may cause some discomfort and presents a risk of injury.
