Summary The Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board's Community Connections and Violence Prevention Department is seeking a motivated and dedicated StreetReach and Community Outreach Worker, who will be responsible to develop community connections with neighborhood groups, organizations, and implement outreach, engagement, intervention, violence prevention and mediation strategies for the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) as part of the StreetReach outreach team. Promote safe and welcoming environments in Minneapolis parks and neighborhoods. Engage adults and youth, build mentoring relationships with adults and youth with high-risk factors including exposure to neighborhood violence, poverty or low income, highly mobile or homeless, substance use or abuse, or gang exposure or involvement.

What You'll Do Engage youth, adults, and vulnerable populations to promote safe environments through positive behavior, intervene when youth and adults are displaying negative, threatening or other inappropriate behaviors, mediate conflict, and connect youth and adults to positive resources for housing, food, recreational activities, jobs, education and training, clothing and other unmet needs.

Focus on safety strategies, that provides outreach, support, intervention, and de-escalation to community and staff in parks. Actively work with community partners to meet the interests and needs of high-risk youth, adults and vulnerable populations through referrals for housing, work readiness training, career exploration, positive recreation and emotional and social development. Administer evaluations and collect data to ensure that outreach and engagement strategies to youth and adults meet or exceed best practices in outreach, community engagement and violence prevention.

Develop mentoring relationships with high risk youth and adults to support and encourage them to build on the strengths and capabilities needed to be positively involved in their communities. Foster and demonstrate effective leadership building in a collaborative environment including working across unit lines and forming partnerships that foster better services; eliminate barriers to achieving results; take full advantage of available resources; and provide input in the development of short and long range plans. Evaluate programs, activities, and services to ensure they are meeting planned objectives using best practices.

Plan on work schedule as being primarily afternoons, evenings and weekends. What To Bring Need to Have: High School Degree or equivalent. Associate's degree from an accredited college preferred.

Experience working with and mentoring high risk youth and adult's populations: at least two (2) years. Experience working in outreach, community engagement, and violence prevention with high-risk youth, adult, and vulnerable populations: at least two (2) years. Valid driver's license without ignition interlock restriction.

Nice to Have: First Aid, CPR and AED certification within 3 months of hire. Skills Crucial to Success in This Role: Knowledge of contemporary principles and best practices of at-risk youth and adult programming to meet the expectations and needs of a diverse customer base. Knowledge of contemporary marketing principles and practices for diverse customer base.

Knowledge of computer and software applications used in business settings, recreation program and facility management, and asset management. Ability to thoroughly evaluate program alternatives and make recommendations for improvements. Ability to demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.

What steps the selection process involves: We review your minimum qualifications. We rate your training and experience based on application materials and supplemental questions (30%). We conduct a structured panel interview (oral exam) (70%).

We calculate your civil service score based on the above components and place you on the eligible list if all testing components are passed (passing score for each component and as an overall score is 70.00 or above). Eligible list will expire in three (3) months. We refer the top finalists to the hiring manager for an interview

References, including verification of employment and work performance, may be considered. We conduct a background check. Upon receiving a conditional offer of employment, the applicant will be asked to sign an informed consent allowing the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board to obtain their criminal history in connection with the positions sought.
