What is the difference between Paramedics vs Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs)?
| Aspect | Paramedics | Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) |

| Required Certifications | Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) or Paramedic license | Basic Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification |
| Work Environment | Ambulances, hospitals, emergency scenes | Ambulances, emergency scenes, public events |
| Scope of Practice | Advanced procedures like IVs, medication administration | Basic life support, CPR, oxygen therapy |

- Assesses, monitors, and documents patient status by performing reassessments, recording vital signs, treatments, medications, and clinical observations in the electronic medical record (EMR), consulting with supervising nurses and physicians regarding patient condition and treatment needs.
- Responds to emergency situations and supports trauma care by participating in code and trauma activations, assisting with patient extrication, spinal stabilization, transportation, and delegated patient care activities under the direction of registered nurses and emergency department physicians.
- Facilitates patient flow and operational support through patient transport within the Emergency Department and hospital campus, independent transport to inpatient units, order entry as directed, and assistance with obtaining patient demographic and billing information.
- Maintains compliance with clinical standards and organizational policies by adhering to established scope-of-practice limitations, patient confidentiality requirements, CHI Health policies and procedures, quality improvement initiatives, and reporting patient care or practice concerns to appropriate leadership.
- Promotes a professional, patient-centered environment and ongoing professional development by demonstrating excellent customer service, maintaining positive relationships with patients and staff, attending required meetings and training, completing continuing education requirements, and providing care for assigned patients under RN supervision within approved acuity levels and competencies.
