Qualifications

Firefighter AEMT

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent. Course work in fire science, fire administration or a related field is desirable.

Experience:

• Must have satisfactorily completed a State of Utah recognized Firefighter I & II Academy OR Equivalent as determined by the Fire Chief. Taken and successfully completed a State of Utah Board of Emergency Medicine recognized; AEMT National Registry Course. Once hired will successfully complete a one year probationary period.

Certifications:

• Possession of a valid Utah Driver's License.
• Possession of a Utah State Firefighter I & II and Hazmat Operations certification.
• Possession of Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) certification .
• Possession of a NWCG Wildland certification is preferred.

Requisites:

• Must by at least 18 years of age.
• Must have refrained from ever using hallucinogenic drugs; marijuana in the past two (2) years; all other illegal drug use (including steroids) in the past five (5) years; must be a non-smoker and have refrained from use of any tobacco products(s) for the past 12 months
• Must have a good driving record free from "at fault" accidents and convictions for violations of criminal traffic infractions to include adjudication withheld for the past 12 months. A good driving record will include no driver's license suspension within the past five years
• Must not have been convicted or plead nolo contendere to any 1st or 2nd degree misdemeanor within the last three years.

Paramedic

Education & Experience:

• Applicants must be 21 years of age or older at the time of employment.
• Graduation from High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Satisfactorily completed a State of Utah recognized Firefighter I & II Academy.
• Must currently possess a Utah State Paramedic License with the ability to maintain the licensure.
• Preference may be given to applicants with experience as a Firefighter/AEMT or Firefighter/Paramedic
• Must have refrained from ever using hallucinogenic drugs; marijuana in the past two (2) years; all other illegal drug use (including steroids) in the past five (5) years; must be a non-smoker and have refrained from use of any tobacco products(s) for the past 12 months
• Must have a good driving record free from "at fault" accidents and convictions for violations of criminal traffic infractions to include adjudication withheld for the past 12 months. A good driving record will include no driver's license suspension within the past five years
• Must not have been convicted or plead nolo contendere to any 1st or 2nd degree misdemeanor within the last three years.

Certifications Required: (Must submit proof of certifications)

• A valid Utah State Driver License.
• Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic (NREMT-P)
• Firefighter I & II certification. 
• NWCG Red Card certification (or be able to obtain certification within the first year of employment).

CPAT Test Results (must be able to provide scores from a testing within the last 12 months or be able to pass the test when the department next holds a testing session).

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range:

The full wage range is as follows, please note hiring will normally occur at the minimum of the range and will not exceed the midpoint, the hiring wage offered to successful applicants will depend on experience and qualifications:

Firefighter AEMT

Minimum - $19.95/hr., Midpoint - $23.94/hr., Maximum - $27.93/hr.

Firefighter Paramedic

Minimum - $23.29/hr. Midpoint - $27.95/hr. Maximum - $32.60/hr.

Benefits:

The City participates in the Utah Public Retirement System (pension). In addition, the City does not participate in Social Security so no Social Security taxes are deducted from your paycheck. In lieu of the City's Social Security contributions, the City contributes 6.2% of salary into a 401 (k) retirement plan.

Other benefits include 170 hours of paid time off (PTO) accrued annually, 40 hours of short-term medical accrued annually, 132 hours of holidays annually, and a 48/96 work schedule.
