Job Title: Production Supervisor – Paper Packaging

Job Description

The Production Supervisor oversees day-to-day operations on the paper packaging production floor, providing hands-on support and guidance to machine operators to ensure machines run efficiently and production goals are consistently achieved. This role requires strong manufacturing experience, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to train, mentor, and lead operators while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and productivity.

Responsibilities

  • Support and guide machine operators in efficiently running their machines to meet or exceed production goals.
  • Participate directly in basic machine operations to fully understand production processes and provide effective hands-on leadership.
  • Assist operators in diagnosing and resolving mechanical issues with production machinery to minimize downtime and maintain continuous production flow.
  • Train and mentor machine operators on best practices, standard operating procedures, safety protocols, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Monitor production lines to ensure consistent product quality that meets all relevant standards and specifications.
  • Manage multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritizing issues as they arise to maintain smooth operations across the production floor.
  • Enforce and promote adherence to all company safety policies and industry regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Collaborate with operators and other team members to identify process improvements and enhance overall efficiency.
  • Ensure accurate communication of production expectations, changes, and updates to machine operators and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain dependable attendance and demonstrate flexibility in working non-standard hours, including some Saturdays, as production needs require.
  • Complete all required ongoing training and stay current with new equipment, processes, and safety requirements.
  • Foster a productive, respectful, and collaborative work environment while effectively managing job-related stress.

Essential Skills

  • At least 10 years of manufacturing or production experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a supervisory role.
  • Prior supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably within packaging or food packaging.
  • Experience in printing or packaging, particularly in paper, plastic, or film.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in troubleshooting and maintaining production machinery.
  • Ability to perform and understand basic machine operations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft software.
  • Experience using basic hand tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to think quickly and act decisively on the production floor.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly instruct, coach, and support machine operators.
  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, balancing supervision, troubleshooting, and learning new equipment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds as necessary.
  • Consistent, dependable attendance and willingness to work first or second shift Monday through Friday, with some Saturdays as needed.
  • Capability to effectively manage job-related stress while maintaining a productive work environment.

Work Environment

The environment emphasizes safety, reliability, and teamwork, with ongoing training to ensure familiarity with new machinery, processes, and standards.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Waukegan, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
