Job Description Summary
The Panther Pantry Assistant supports the daily operations of the Panther Pantry by providing excellent customer service, maintaining a welcoming and inclusive environment, and assisting students accessing pantry resources. This position is responsible for opening and closing the pantry, assisting with student check-ins, stocking shelves, maintaining pantry cleanliness and organization, and ensuring students have access to food and basic needs resources. Panther Pantry Assistants work collaboratively with professional staff and fellow student employees to promote food security and support the well-being of the Chapman University community.
Responsibilities
  • Provide a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful experience for all Panther Pantry users.
  • Greet students, verify pantry eligibility during check-in, and maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Assist students in navigating the pantry and answer questions about pantry services, policies, and available resources.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming pantry environment, including front-of-house service areas.
  • Restock pantry shelves throughout operating hours to ensure products remain accessible for students.
  • Monitor pantry appearance and notify supervisors when inventory needs replenishment.
  • Track pantry visits and other required data using PantrySoft.
  • Promote awareness of the Panther Pantry and other basic needs resources through outreach and engagement efforts.
  • Assist with special events, campus outreach activities, food drives, and other initiatives that support food security.
  • Follow all University policies, Panther Pantry procedures, and food safety guidelines.
  • Work collaboratively with Panther Pantry staff and professional staff to ensure efficient daily operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Panther Pantry and the Dean of Students Office.
Required Qualifications
Little to minimal prior experience. Ability to learn support process. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Previous experience working or volunteering in a food pantry, food service, or customer-facing environment.
  • Familiarity with food safety practices and handling procedures.
  • Knowledge of or experience with Chapman University programs, services, or campus resources.

  • Ability to take initiative, contribute ideas, and work collaboratively in a team setting.
