SUMMARY

Installs and repairs electrical systems, apparatus, electrical and electronic components of industrial
machinery, and equipment by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Works at following and promoting company safety rules and policies and following accepted safe work practices.
2. Safely operate forklifts to move equipment and materials to and from the production areas, scales, warehouse, ect.
3. Safely operate the man-lift and observe weight and height limits.
4. Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machine and equipment such as extruders and control cabinets, electrical motors and programmable controllers.
5. Connects power supply wires to machines and equipment and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment.
6. Repairs or replaces faulty PLC'S, DC and AC drives.
7. Pushes buttons and presses keys on programmable controllers to program automated machinery to operate properly, and to test for malfunctions and to verify repairs.
8. Plans layout of wiring and installs wiring, conduit and electrical apparatus in building.
9. Designs and draws electrical schematics and purchases parts needed to build and install electrical control panels for equipment.
10. Replace faulty electrical components of machines such as relays, switches, and motors and position sensing devices.
11. Be able to use and program PLC and automated controllers.
12. Know the proper use of voltage testing equipment.
13. Start devices to test their performance.
14. Set up and operate drill press, hydraulic press and cut off saw. Use various other hand and shop tools to make and repair parts and equipment.
15. Fabricate new equipment or modify existing equipment to meet production requirements.
16. Possess essential mechanical skills to be able to trouble shoot equipment malfunctions and to be able to make proper repairs.
17. Perform electrical preventative maintenance on extrusion equipment and other related fields as needed.
18. Know the basic extrusion process and assist the production department in all aspects of PVC pipe manufacture.
19. Supply your own hand tools.
20. Communicate well with other employees and operators to determine repair problems needed.
21. Assist other employees when needed and work successfully in a self-managed work team.
22. Be a self starter and perform duties with little direct supervision.
23. Attend required training sessions, wear the required safety equipment such as hearing protection, safety glasses, and other safety equipment that might be required for certain jobs or tasks.
24. Be willing to learn new tasks and take on individual responsibilities.
25. Be willing to be on call.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 1-3 year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and welding knowledge is required, with the ability to read schematics in all related areas. safety glasses, and other safety equipment that might be required for certain jobs or tasks. Be willing to learn new tasks and take on individual responsibilities. Be willing to be on call.

QUALIFICATIONS:

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Experience with computers and basic keyboarding skills.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: accurate and timely decisions in a stressful environment.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages. Ability to work with the metric system.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in changing situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to make accurate and timely decisions in a stressful environment.

The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or climb stairs, and to climb ladders and work at heights up to 50 feet. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical and hydraulic equipment. The employee normally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration. 

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
