Job description

Universal Technical Resource Services, Inc. (UTRS) is currently seeking a Junior CNC Mill Operator to join our team! At UTRS, we enjoy the benefits of working in a collaborative environment of close-knit team members. We are looking for someone that will support our mission to consistently deliver creative, high-quality, technology-based services to our customers on time and within budget. 

This person is responsible for CNC milling operations. This position is located at Picatinny Arsenal.  

What will you be doing? 

This position will be a key member of the Prototype Engineering team.  Duties include: 

  • Technician to work CNC Milling operations
  • Inserting raw materials (metal, plastic) into the mill’s vise or fixtures, and removing finished parts
  • Running pre-programmed sequences by operating the CNC control panel under supervision
  • Using hand tools, files, or tumbling machines to remove sharp edges, burrs, and excess material from freshly machined parts
  • Be able to complete in-process inspections in open setup (mics, calipers, thread measurements) and optical comparator (angles and overlays)
  • Be able to inspect parts coming off CNC machines for visual defects and workmanship
  • Experience interpreting blueprints, beginner knowledge of GD&T
  • Staging raw stock and moving heavy materials using pallet jacks, hoists, or forklifts
  • Maintain traceability on material alloys and raw materials being machined for each job
  • Loading designated cutting tools (end mills, drills, taps) into tool holders and placing them into the machine’s tool carousel
  • Cleaning the machine bed and assisting in mounting vises, clamps, or custom fixtures needed for the next job
  • Maintain CNC machines, including basic maintenance, and workspace professionalism
  • Basic computer skills to enter inspection data, JobBOSS, etc.

  • Work and communicate well with a team of Engineers and Technicians to efficiently complete assigned tasks


What skills will the ideal candidate have to be successful? 

This position will require the following skillsets and experience: 


  • Must be able to obtain a clearance through the DoD security background investigation process

  • Experience: 1–3 years of experience operating CNC machinery
  • Looking for independently capable (work experience can vary if the applicant is proficient)
  • Pass drug and alcohol testing
  • Must have good mechanical skills and experience
  • High standard of quality and efficiency
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Any milling/other MFG experience would be beneficial
  • Solid knowledge of shop mathematics
  • Must be a team player, able to multitask and prioritize accordingly
  • Basic PC knowledge (MS Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Must be able to work in a physical capacity, lifting and moving heavy object
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to obtain a government driver’s license
  • High School diploma required, College degree not required but beneficial
