Status: Non-Exempt/Hourly

Location:  Westfield-New Holland


Purpose of Position:

The Packing Associate is responsible for pre-Inspecting, packing, & cleaning.


Essential Skills:

  • Manages multiple tasks or projects simultaneously.
  • Interacts effectively with others in a professional manner.

Essential Characteristics:

  • Maintains high standards of conduct and performance.

Essential Duties:

  • Inspect eggs for leakers and Grade B quality.
  • Check cartons for any quality issues and verify that the correct type of carton has been loaded.
  • Ensure each carton is properly filled and meets packaging standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized area around the packers; keep all cartons off the floor.
  • Unfold and prepare cases for use.
  • Place filled egg cartons into the correct cases.
  • Apply printed labels to each case, indicating product type and egg size.
  • Perform regular inspections of each packer to confirm correct labeling; document findings on the Label Inspection Form.
  • Verify that the code printer is functioning correctly by checking the legibility and accuracy of printed codes on cartons.
  • Clean processing equipment and the surrounding area at the end of production in accordance with food safety standards.
  • Remain attentive and focused during grader/packer operations.
  • Promptly report any suspicious activity or safety concerns to management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule:

  • Typical hours: Monday – Thursday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM 
  • Two 10-minute paid breaks and a 1-hour unpaid lunch break.
Requirements:

Position Requirements:

  • No prior experience or training is required.
  • Ability to read a limited number of words in English. 
  • Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
  • Ability to add or subtract two-digit numbers and multiply or divide with 10s and 100s. 
  • Ability to perform operations with units of weight, measurements, volume and distance.
  • Completion of general safety and basic food safety training (provided by WEF).
  • Completion of egg packing procedure training (provided by WEF).
  • Complete support of and willing adherence to Westfield Egg Farm’s mission, vision, and core values. Applicant must hold these standards as his/her own.

Physical Requirements / Environmental Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand.  The employee is occasionally required to walk, to climb stairs and ladders, use hand to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to sit.  The employee is regularly required to move about the facility.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  The employee is required to seek assistance in the lifting of more than 50 pounds or use a crane or hoists.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, and vibration.  The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold, and extreme heat.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
